Maryland to Newmar directions

Hi All,
I need to go to Nemar from Maryland soon and would like to take I70 most of the way instead of I80. Mostly because I hate the PA turnpike and all the tolls on the way out.

I was thinking of taking I69 or I75 north to route 30 west then route 19 north.

What do you think? Too many stops on route 30?

I 70 is a nice ride, mostly flat the further west you go.

Some things to consider, look at IND Route 9 north off of I70 - you will catch it at Greefield Indiana - take it north to I69. You would by-pass Indianapolis completely this way and save some miles also.

Once on I69 - rather than going all the way to route 30, consider going west on either IND Route 26 (a great 2 lane hiway through the farm fields of the Heartland) or US 35 west. I have never traveled US 35 as I prefer the 2 lanes, but with a motor coach it might fit your needs better - although 26 will do fine and you would probably hold up the farm semis as they travel farm to farm (LOL),

Take each highway to US 31 north, at the point where you would pick up 31 the lights become less frequent and good time can be made. Once you hit IND 6, go east 6 miles and you are at Camp Newmar.

The reason I suggest one of these routes is I69 begins to head in a northeasterly direction just north of US 35, adding more miles...........

As an FYI - if you have never been in that part of Indiana, it is very rual - traffic is generally never an issue, although the chance of hitting a Hoosier with all the time in the world does pose a possibility.

Good luck, if you have more questions ask away or PM me.

Take care, safe travels,

Glenn

Thanks Indy Glenn! I love seeing the farmland. I will try that way to the Newmar Motorcoach facility.

We have done the Indiana trip twice, not to Nappanee though. Once on Turnpike 76 and the other I70 to 68 over to Columbus on 70. Both were Ok routes. Quicker on the Turnpike though.

On the back roads be aware of the Amish buggies. They don't travel as fast as we do.

Just food for thought , but we just finished a trip to the mid-west, i70 from indy to Columbus, was by far the worst road we traveled on during our 3500 mile trip. Route 30 across ohio and Indiana was a very nice ride
