Question Metal snapping sound full side slide

2015 Dutch Star 4018 When I bring in the full side slide I hear a loud snapping sound like metal braking. This happens after about three inches of the return in. I have check all bolts on the motors and re torqued them and no better. I have also checked all cog wheels for alignment and also applied a little grease to them no help. Has someone else experienced this problem? It can't be good and it's just a matter of time befor something brakes.

Does it sound like its coming from the top or bottom? I have an American Coach so its different make but we had a slight interference at the top and it would bind. Was told by the factory to add a basic shim and it solved the issue.

I've heard slide topper springs make some pretty odd sounds.

Metal snapping sound

The snapping sound is definitely coming from lower section of slide. I've checked all bolts and nuts in the surrounding area, all are tight.

My guess would be your torque nut bushing not being torqued down enough and allowing slippage of the shaft which creates a "metal clang or breaking sound"

There are any number of things that can be going on as this long thread points out from this informative threads.
You need some help with someone activating the switch as you observe the slide movement from outside.
Looking at first link will show brackets on slide, interior of frame stops. slide stop rods, motor mounting brackets, gear housings and so forth.
A slide out of alignment can cause these problems.

Next time slide is open do check the slide locks by squeezing the paddle with your hands & make sure they are functioning properly.

Not sure what the bottom of your slide looks like but I have 7 plastic/sheet metal pieces that my slides, slide along on. When recently at Newmar my Tech suggested that I use a graphite lubricant on those plastic/metal slides. Not sure this is your issue but I hope it helps.

Careful doing this...it could cause the rod to fall out.

Hi Redbaron
Not sure we are on the same page. Rod is attached quite well to the top assembly with a pin. Top assembly needs to be removed (two lag's) to free up rod. Rod attached to lower assembly with a screw. I've had two of mine apart as I have had a couple issues. With slide open, squeezing the paddle with your hand simply duplicates what the slide lock is supposed to be doing when slide comes into coach. If rod fell out something catastrophic has happened & requires immediate attention.

This is the area I was thinking it was, but you have better information than I did. During both of my FPU, the tech's warned me never to press the paddles in as the rod would fall down. I never questioned it, but now that you have shown the diagram, I don't see how pressing it could cause a problem.

Thanks!
