Microwave Dometic DOTR 12CB in 2004 Dutch Star

We were using this microwave up until May with no problem and then I was trying out some new microwave dishes, a bowl, that will not heat up but the contents will. As soon as I started the microwave, it was like 10 lightning strikes going off inside, so I turned it off and unplugged it. I am not sure the dishes were not the problem as it acted as if metal was placed inside. Cannot find replacement over the range microwave that will fit this 21" wide area. Any help would be appreciated. I know it is risky but would really like to take this one out and see if it would work with regular dishes. I could not find that microwave bowl on the web, called Cooks. Found other Cooks cookware but not find bowls and plates like I have. I threw away the bowls and kept the plates. Have since bought a small countertop one to use and hate having it on the counter all of the time. Has anyone else had experience with microwave going bananas like this? We have owned several that have just quit but never one that acted like this. Any help in getting it out would also be appreciated. It is very heavy for such a small microwave. Thanks.

Thanks, Old Biscuit. You are second person to suggest this. It is something I am seriously considering. Sometimes the obvious is the simplest cure.

Microwave Dometic DOTR 12CB in 2004 Dutch Star - Solved

Thanks, Old Biscuit. Took yours and others advice and put water in a microwave safe cup and put it in microwave. It worked perfectly. It kept eating at me that it was the new microwave-only bowl that caused the erratic behavior and glad I found out. There must have been something in the plastic bowl that was supposed to stay cool while heating the food inside that acted like metal as that it how it acted. I called the company and reported it but, of course, they denied it was their product and said they tried the same bowl and it caused no problem in their microwave. I threw away the bowls but kept the plates as I want someone to examine them who could tell if the material is not compatible in older microwaves. I think the manufacturer was Cooks but when I looked on their website, the bowls and plates were not listed, only cookware. I will check the manufacturer name and let you all know. All of the cool to touch bowls I found since this have been dual bowls with a removable ceramic bowl inside and plastic outer cover. These look just like plastic bowls. Just wanted to let you know I took your advice and was careful with hand on the stop button, fire extinguisher handy and ready to pull the power. I will always watch it carefully, just in case.

Just as an aside, after using the microwave, I noticed what looked like black debris on the glass and floor of the microwave. Used a wet paper towel and wiped it up. On close examination, it was tiny squares of metal and I am sure the microwave-only bowls were the cause of the problem. I called the manufacturer and they said they tried the same bowls in the same microwave and nothing happened. I didn't argue with them as that is a cue they are not listening to you. I am glad I know what it was and don't have to anticipate another incident like that. Don't buy any microwave-only bowls or plates by Cooks.
