Mirror Arm Advice

I have a set of Ramco 1750 mirrors on my coach that have 8" arms. The chrome on the mirrors has corrosion underneath and is "bubbling up". My plan was to send them off to be re-chromed. The person at Ramco said they have "seconds" arms that they sell for half price. So, a set for $300 or so. Sounds cheaper than a chrome shop. Here is the problem - he has 12" arms and 7" arms.

Does anyone have any experience lengthening or shortening mirror arms that they can share? Im guessing not, but can't hurt to ask.

Call them back and see how they measured their part.

Could be you measured overall and they measured center to center.

Thanks. He was quoting the length based on what was on my coach (I gave him the specs). I was wrong, it was 10" or 7". I would think longer would be no problem as you will swing the mirror less to the rear to get the same view. The problem with the 10" is that I would likely have to modify the harness. 7" would seem the easiest if I can get the same view. I can't imagine that 1" difference would matter, but don't really want to make a mistake either. That's why I posted here.

Did you check with a chrome plating shop to see what it would cost to re-plate your arms? Might be cheaper than $300 for seconds. I would question what makes the arms seconds. They may not look that good.

Motorcycle shops could probably give you some names of plating shops.

Good advice. I will get a quote versus assuming that purchase is less expensive. The only reason I came to that conclusion is because there is NONE near me. I will have to ship both ways plus the cost of the chrome.
