Good luck on the new knee MOD. You have gone through this before so you know to expect. I had my 2nd knee done nine years ago. Had to wait till I was old enough back then to do it. I was golfing 7 weeks after replacement. I just don't understand why some of my buddies seem to wait to get those knees fixed and suffer as long as they do. Just like our coaches new technology is a wonderful thing.

I know a few have mounted them in the storage bays and used available plugs. With just one pass thru bay, I'm limited to where I could mount it. I know many mounted it to the ceiling or side wall, but it interfered with all the other stuff I have in my bays.

I stole part of my idea from LJowdy a forum member. He mounted a cord reel in the engine bay and uses the block heater outlet. The block heater outlet works well because it's suited for heater use and you can switch it on and off from inside the coach.

After measuring, I found that I had room in the DEF tank bay. There is a dead area to the left of the tank. I know there is heat in there, but it hasn't adversely affected all the wiring and hoses on top of the DEF tank.

I took a piece of aluminum diamond plate, bent the rear into an "L" shape. I used the aluminum to add surface area so that I could screw into a 2" square tube at the back of the bay and into the ceiling of the bay with self tapping screws.

Lastly, the male end of the cord that came with the power cord reel was not long enough to reach the block heater plug. I added a 6' extension cord, taped the plugs together and covered it in split wrap. I fed it across the top of the battery box, up behind the Oasis tank and tie wrapped it to the frame rail.

I used the below listed cord reel as it had some of the smallest dimensions. It's a 30' cord so it can pretty much reach the patio area without issue.

DSD nice mod, was wondering if you have a shop in order to cut and bend the materials, in some of the projects you post !
Thanks for the ideas !

Lots can be done with a vice, a hammer, some large pliers, a right angle grinder with a metal cut off abrasive wheel
And a welder helps with some of the projects too. Gas, Arc, MIG or Tig.
DIY'rs love their tools.

No shop, just my garage. I was a mechanic in teens and love tools. The bends were all done by hand. My best tool is my wire feed welder. You can bend a lot of stuff in a vice.

Looks great......I would have liked mine in a bay, but just didn't have space.

Thanks for the great mod idea!

I went for the 12 gauge 64’ Amazon Commercial reel. The electric “bbq” and the induction cooktop top we sometimes take outside need amps...

It’s a heavy reel; so mounted it so the weight is supported by the bay floor. It can pivot depending on what we want to store.

great mod that i ever thought of. My only concern between this and running from power pedestal is I am always concerned about overloading the coach. I would running a pellet grill, couple of fans during summer as well as a bug light. guess I need to ck the amps on all possible appliances. I don't thing any of them would draw very much. Any thoughts?

One of the reasons I chose the location I did, it was a short run to the engine block heater outlet, which is on it's own circuit.
