You certainly squeezed it in there. I wasn't that motivated!

I ran across something interesting the other day. A friend of mine asked me to come over and change out her water softener cartridge. I thought she was crazy talking about a water softener cartridge but she was right. It is a water softener that uses a cartridge just like a water filter, no tank and not salt back flushing.

We live in Vegas where the water is rock hard and it works great, her water is nice and soft and no spotting, so I called his company and ask them about an RV. They told me they have one under development specifically for RVs and should be released in about six months.

The maintenance is as simple as changing a water filter cartridge. I’m definitely going to look in to replacing my ole fashioned salt based system when they are released. The link is below.

Nice job as usual Don.

We have the larger one and was fortunate to have a place to put it where he whole house filter was. Tossed it because it was the devil to take off and replace.

Getting the cap off the softener is no treat either. I had to build a tool to go over the top to give me enough leverage. As for frequency of back washing. It so depends on the incoming water of course. Sometimes a couple hundred gallons before the water loses the slick feeling and sometimes it is thousands.

I have used the quick disconnects but they either corrode or leak eventually. I have tried all kinds of them to no avail.

Has anyone else used the Nuvoh? Looks like an in line filter, not sure why their house version wouldn't work in a RV.

I replaced the stock fittings on the OTG and use quick connects to make removing the unit easier. The fittings drip a bit but under pressure work fine.
I would like to find a tray that would fit under and not take up too much space. Ideally, I could then plumb it through the floor.
Anyone using a tray under the Double Standard?

It's been a while but I heard too many negative results on it. You can call them and I believe they do have a smaller filter setup. But they do not preform like a Salt based water softener does.

Here you go.....aluminum baking pans that come in 10", 12" and 14". I just ordered the 10" one. It's got a 10" inside diameter and 11" outside diameter.

Been to enough locations out west that requires a regeneration every week.
Just spent 5 weeks in AZ which required weekly regens.... Currently at Big Texan RV Park and it's nice to have good water again!
I guess I'm old school and don't mind hauling our Double On-The-Go unit with a separate sediment filter. It's stored in a plastic bin and I don't drain it when moving. The short hose from the sediment filter to the softener swivels at both ends making it easy to unhook.
I my travels, I've found it very useful to use a sediment filter prior to the softener even in the midwest and out east.

Buy Hardness test strips on Amazon. When it indicates the hardness level of your softener recommendations--regen.

Service (regeneration) is directly related to the amount of dissolved solids in the water. We’ve gone from one regen in six months in SE to twice in a three week period in AZ while along the Colorado River. It just depends.

There have been other setups on this site over the years where owners will plumb the units in and use multiple valves and connections to allow flipping the valves to accomplish the reversing for the flushing of the salt. I haven’t seen anybody come up with a way to get the salt into the cylinder without taking the top off.

The large on the go device I have is nearly impossible to take the top off without a tool I made.

What have others done to make it easier?
