Motor Home Insurance

Been trying to follow advice about who to look at for Insurance, have a renewal in a few weeks:

Progressive through USAA: $2495 (Have had great experience)

Good Sam (National General Insurance): $2304 (Many OPs state good)

Hartford Insurance: $1403 (Some OPs state good) (Huge difference in price)

Price is not the only consideration, so my question is my quotes are for full replacement value, $250,000 / $500,000 bodily injury & uninsured ect... there are some minor differences with accident forgiveness, vanishing deductibles and the like. I have never had any experience or have I ever known anybody that can tell me about Hartford Insurance. What an insurance company does when there is an emergency is the golden nugget.

Comments and advice welcome.

Glad to have you here with us.

Youo might also want to look at National Interstate. I have been with them for 6 yrs, had 2 claims, and received a total of $85 rate increase in that time period. Customer service is fast and courteous. Plus they gave me CoachNet roadside assistance in the premium.

Hi Sidewinder4,
Consider double checking the Hartford rate. The rate looks like an ACV replacement value. Also consider Farm & City Insurance. They are a broker and specialize in many companies for motor coach insurance. They are at FCIS Insurance - Iowa Life, Auto, RV and Pet Insurance Company

You might give Hi Sage Insurance in Escondido, CA a call. They were able to find me MH insurance for a good rate and were easy to work with. Their website is Hi Sage Insurance - Your RV, Fifth Wheel, Travel Trailer, Motorcycle, Boat insurance specialists over 25 years and their phone number is 800-887-8467.

I have no experience with Hartford but you might want to check with Nationwide. They gave me a really good rate when I first signed on with them but I have had sizable increases the last few years. I've been happy with them except for the rate increases but I think they might still be cheaper than the competition. If I get a big increase in July I may be shopping too. National Interstate might be in the Nationwide family because I also the Coachnet coverage as part of my insurance.

I am limited in which companies provide RV insurance in my state. I currently have Progressive but just switched to National General through Good Sam. My reasons were they were slightly lower cost but more importantly you can turn it on and off during storage/non-use. This will save me even more.

I am with Geico. I had one major claim ($20,000) No rate increase and they handled the claim extremely smoothly. I can't say enough good things about them.

X2 with TonyDi. We went with National Interstate as well for year one. Just finished renewal, no increase. The majority of what they do are motor homes.

While I was at my RV dealer to pick up my motorhome. I contacted Progressive for coverage. They told me the montly premium would be about $17. Then I asked, "How much is the total premium for a full year's coverage?" They said it was $487.

I almost fell out of my seat. Then I said, "Oh, heck! I'll just pay the whole year's premium now so I don't have to bother with it."

We are with Erie...... Had a large claim on the MH for over 35K. Fleetwood shop manager stated that they were the Best Insurance that he had ever worked with in his 25 years in the shop, Actually our insurance premium has gone down.

Great Comments:

My only issue is I got better rates than mentioned above initially; however when Iasked for replacement cost, is when the rates went up significantly as shownfrom original OP. Most rates were not quoted with windshield replacement either. Many inexpensive rates did not have reasonable coverage, thatis to say, reasonably protect you as an RV'er in the court of law against civilliabilities.

Mine covers $1 million coverage with umbrella insurance, covers windshield, does not cover replacement. Only GS insurance covered replacement, with less Liability Coverage and a lot more money.

When I researched insurance last year for my new coach, I received quotes from most of the companies recommended by others here. I ended up choosing a company that has not been mentioned yet. Blue Sky RV Insurance also specializes in motor home insurance, like several others already mentioned. I chose a policy with a 5-year guaranteed replacement cost and high comprehensive coverage with a reasonable deductible. At the time, Blue Sky was more competitive than the others when comparing similar coverages.
