Motorized windshield shade

Having intermittent issue with windshield shade operating. Twice it just made a clicking noise and did not move eventually switch worked. Question is there a way to get shade up manually. Thought I should ask in case we get stuck before we have it looked at. Thanks we have a 2016 Newmar ventana 3709

If it's like the shade in our Bay Star, the shade rides in a slot on each side of the windshield. Raise one side up manually until you can remove it from the grove. Once both sides are out, roll up the shade and using some good ole duct tape, tape the rolled up shade to the overhead. Make sure you over due the taping. You do not want is coming down during travel. That would be an ugly situation. The other option, if you had the tools and the time would be tp remove the shade.

Personally, I would avoid duct tape since it can leave some awful sticky stuff behind that can be difficult to remove. On mine, I could roll up the shade manually and loop a string or thin rope over the roller assembly and tie it up there...probably a tie on each end and one or two in the mid section. This would avoid any potential problems with duct tape residue while firmly holding it up to the roller assembly.

Our front shade on our 2020 Canyon Star stopped working, suspected to be a bad motor.
In order to use it, we slid the guide out of the slot, on each side, then the wife & I rolled it up until out of the way. At that point , I used , 2 bungie cords which were long enough to go around the partially rolled up shade. These hold it in place fine, & when we need the privacy, we undo the "bungies", & roll it down.
No need to ruin the headliner, upholstery, nor anything else from "duct type" residue! This is a simple fix, & works well, until you can get the shade motor replaced.
That's what we have done, & Newmar will fix it when we go to Napanee, the first week of August!
Life is filled with bumps in the road, especially the "RV Life"! Though frustrating, accept & enjoy the challenge! Life is too short to get too terribly upset!

I like the other methods mentioned, If you can easily get to the top of the shade and if you have bungee cords or even a belt will do. Whatever method you use, make sure it can’t unroll or come down while you are on the road.

The clip on one side of ours broke and it did fall while driving through Colorado. Scarred the s... out of us but it did come all the way down. Wires disconnected and unit did not hang across window. We rolled up unit and put on bed until we could replace cheap plastic clip. Pretty easy to install for nighttime coverage only until clip replaced. Safe travels.

Enjoy the journey
