A 2018 left over (that's what it is) is a red flag to me. I am pretty sure that the things like slide seals have not been maintained, as the manuel calls for, along with awnings and such. Has the oil been changed every year in the engine and generator? This is not like one that has been used were you would think it was done. I would ask for service records from the dealer before I would consider it. And all this from a guy who likes the K3 chassis.

Hi - Before anyone can help with your question one huge fact needs to be known. How do you intend to use the coach? That influences what is important and what is fluff. How I use the same coach will be a far different experience from someone else if the intended use of the coach is different.
Otherwise you are looking at opinions that may or may not have value to you. Might as well as what color is best or which floor is the prettiest.
Buy what works for you and your intended use.
Tom

Don't let the fact that the MA 2 years old scare you off. I am sure it has been on test drives and has most systems used. Like I said in a previous post I bought a new 2 year old coach and had no problems. And then there are posts saying it is 3 1/2 to 4 yrs old. Check out the build date, it may have been built as late as May or June of 2008.

Go for the Dutch Star, the upgrades over 2 years will far out weigh the torque and transmission advantages of the MountainAire. You have not mentioned the dealer, but dealers tend to ignore a coach until it is sold. That is a bad thing. The batteries need to be maintained, the engine oil is out of date (yes, it really does go out of date without being driven) and the wheel seals need to be exercised. In short, if it has been test driven frequently (unlikely) its fine. If not (likely) skip it and go for the DSDP, you cannot go wrong with a Dutch Star.
Out of curiosity is it on a Spartan or Freightliner?

I would choose the MA & not have to think on it much. I believe the DS is a wonderful, beautiful, well made, underpowered coach.

I wonder if this 2018 MA is the one a dealer had with no floor heat? That would be a deal breaker for me and might explain why it has been sitting so long.

If it was me , I would go for the Mountain Aire. The price should convince you of this. Both being new with the Mountain Aire 2 years older production year. The Mountain Aire is a step up in luxury and 2018 being a better year in quality build.

I assume the MA will have a full one year warranty as it is sold as new.
If so even though we love our new DS I might go for the MA.

The fact that the MA is eligible for “highlines service” was a deciding factor for our decision. We previously owned an Essex. I have had incredible service and info from the Highlines Customer Service. They are invaluable!
All Newmars from MA to King Aire are considered Highlines.

Thank you
Thank you all for your insight, it was very helpful. We have decided on the MA, in the end they lowered the price beyond what the newer DS could meet and all of the upgrades we liked in the DS were items we feel we can over time. We are very excited and again, thank you, we really appreciate the time and knowledge you were willing to share!

Congrats on your decision. You couldn’t lose either way as both are great models.
Enjoy!

Congrats, I think you made the right decision. I would have loved to buy a 2018 MA 4047, but it was out of my price range. What model is yours?

Just curious if this is the 2018 MA that has been on the lot at Anceria RV in Boerne, TX for the past three years. If so, I looked at that coach a couple of times before buying our new DS.

It is a model 4531, from a dealer in Oregon. We are excited the hold over allowed us to get into a MA that normally would have been beyond our price point.
