Moved KIB wall switch panel to kitchen cabinet
First, thanks to Dutch Star Don for his thread several years ago on this topic of adding an additional KIB switch to a better location, the side of his Kitchen Cabinet. In my case I couldn't get a new switch from Newmar since it's over the 5 year mark. They did say they could get me a 2017 Wall Switch that was very similar, 4 weeks to order and a cost of $238. So I decided to try just covering where the other switch was with matching wall paper and using the original switch instead. Basically Zero cost since I had additional wiring as well as the wallpaper. It's very easy to do as long as you're very careful with a jig saw when cutting the hole for the switch. Wiring is done at the back of the sink cabinet where all wires come back into the base of that cabinet and before they go into the moving track for when the slide is brought in and out. Here are a few pic's of my project yesterday. No more reaching over the countertop and couch to turn on the Kitchen Lights, etc.

Nicely done! We have the same issue in our 2020 KSDP as our galley has a very similar layout with the wall switch in the very same location. From your description, I plan on checking the wiring to see if our switch can be re-located as well. My preference would be the wall aft of the kitchen sink, but the slide movement would make re-routing of wires difficult. Thanks for sharing!

Mike, I added one to the wall aft of our kitchen slide. On our floor plan there is an opening for the Oasis hoses that run to the 2 Oasis heating units in the kitchen slide in that wall under the sink, so running the wires was fairly easy.

Question Ken, does the slide when closed cover the KIB switch? Can you take a couple pictures to show your setup as well? Thanks

I have a 2019 4369. Can I add a panel near the sink and still leave the original and use either panel?

Yes....that's what I did on both of my Dutch Stars. The only issue is getting the panel from Newmar. When I did both of mine, the coaches were less than a year old and readily available. Just get the number on the back of the panel and call Newmar parts.

Funny and true story, when I told my wife what I was about to do, and said I had to CUT into the cabinet wall to mount the KIB switch, (even after I told her DSD did it in both his Dutch Stars,) she had a heart attack. But now after being in the coach for three days she just commented on how handy the new location is and loves it. She's using it for the main ceiling lights instead of the wall switch by the front as well as the overhead kitchen lights. Happy Wife, Happy Life

Hope these post. Pictures of the switch location. Still accessible with the slide closed.

That's a nice spot for it. On my 2019 DS, there is a mirror covering that entire wall.

They said they could get me a 2017 Switch, part number within the pic. Would take 4 weeks to get. This was quoted last week to me by:
Here is the switch # 130394.
