Cool Much improved external TV mount

There was a thread some time ago about replacing the external TV mount with one that could tilt, I tried it, didn't work out. In my recent TV shuffle in the house bringing in a new 4K TV out had to go the oldest which is a nice 46" Samsung so I figured I'd try the external TV mount replacement and see how the 46" would work at the same time.

I actually like the Sony's Newmar provided (shocking) and have become comfortable with them but I am a Samsung LED TV fan so I'll give this a go. Measurements all check good for the 46" and I have anti-glare on the way to help matters further as we all know the external TV and glare are a problem.

I found this mount on Amazon - I love it!! I don't know why it's only $40'ish, it should be twice as much. It retracts (out/in) it tilts, it swivels left/right and it also rotates slightly to help level your TV when installed. It's solid, it's high quality, it worked great!

I'm not a fan of the Bose soundbars so I put a Samsung 3.1 system in several months ago, the subwoofer is in the basement with the plug (just forward of peg board bay) results from the sub are so so (door needs to be open) but the sound bar is amazing.

So here are a few pics and the parts for anyone bored and wanting to labor through yet another mod

https://amzn.to/2CCeqTr

Samsung Sound Bar

I highly recommend even if staying with your existing TV that you do switch out the mount so you have full swivel, tilt, extend/retract capability.

TV is obsolete, several year old Samsung UN46D8000 but still a great picture. I really don't want to go down my usual path of replacing all of the TV's!!! (that was for me!)

Neal.....will it stay put during travel? I know the original mount kind of locks into place when pushed back in. Does it lock or can you just block it. My coach has the Home Theater system and I wish they hadn't gone away from that. I guess with the sound bar they can add it to every TV.

Replacing or modifying that mount is on my list of to do items. I never liked that mine didn't angle down. Recently, I took a look at Stuart W's coach (2018) and I plan on cutting the mount in half and adding he ability to swivel down. I've got a welder and it will be a project down the road. If it doesn't work out, I'll be doing what you did.

The Newmar custom mount uses a magnet. Iím going to see how this goes and if needed I can mount a magnet.

Neal, thanks for the link to the mount! I can't believe it's that cheap, so I ordered one. I'll stick with the original TV though. I've tried to shim ours to make it tilt a little to avoid the reflection to no avail. I did install the 3m anti glare screen and that helps a lot.

Oh, and thanks a lot for yet another project.

Neal, I replaced my outside TV mount several months ago with one from Amazon that moves in all directions like yours. When I did the installation I put the the magnets in new locations to help hold it in the proper place. Been on the road now for 7 weeks and love it. I did notice that the the TV would tilt and was rubbing on the top or bottom. I added small felt sticky circles to the TV and all seams to be working well. I agree with you that this is a easy DIY project with very positive results. Bill

I noticed the original mount seems to be anchored to the left of center, which I would suppose is reinforced. Did you find enough meat on the right side to anchor the new mount?

All I know of is a solid wood backboard to that compartment so I used 6 anchor bolts (short as I'm not sure what's on the other side as that's behind the kitchen drawers.)

The Newmar mount is swiveled left side only which is why I don't care for it. Pull the TV out is limited as you hit the left side, etc. The one I bought is center mounted and pulls straight out if desired, angles, tilts, etc.

Also - the Sony TV used by Newmar is very light. Not much weight to it at all. Nothing to be concerned of.

Thanks again Neal, mine will be in this week and installed before the weekend. Next time you're in Ft. Myers let me know. We'll hit lunch again.

Jim, my anti-glare film keeps getting delays on Amazon so I'm not confident I'm ever going to get it. I've seen sellers do this before. What did you use for your TV anti-glare film? Link? Hopefully I can find one to work on the 46" screen.

Got mine HERE. They make them for specific TV models and are cut to fit. I ordered the Triple A film. Does make quite a difference.

Yup, just pulled mine out anticipating delivery today of the new bracket. Short screws, but fine if you use enough of em. Today is like Christmas. I got my Koni Evo shocks early this morning and got them installed. Won't have the coach out till mid Oct, but from what has been said here, they make a great improvement in ride.
