Must haves

Ok I have a Ď22 DS 4311 supposedly arriving in early January. I have had 3 Tiffins so I know what I need to equip them. So, do I need protection for the transfer switch? I know I need a Magneshade for the windshield. Do I need shades for the Driver and passenger windows? Note - we have a lot in SW VA facing west. I already have a Dish receiver and DVR memory. One of the best add ones I have done on my last 2 coaches is an electric bed lift. It opens the bed far higher than the std struts. I ordered the sleep number bed so does it have a large storage area under the bed? Please add anything I have missed. Thanks

Must haves

There are a lot of options on a Newmar that donít apply to a Tiffin. For example, the coach dories not come standard with a surge protector, but you can option one in. I did not do that on my 2020 DS 4081 because Newmar puts in a surge protector thatís integrated with the transfer switch and I donít care fir that design. So I saved those bucks and I use a Progressive Industries 50 Amp EMS on the pedestal.

Assuming you optioned in the MCD electric shades, you will be fine for shades. Magna Shades are great and you need to order a set of those too.

So you are already on Dish Network. Good choice. If you didnít order the coach with a Winegard Traveler from Newmar, I would recommend you get a Racal Mogul Eagle from a third party dealer. It sets up faster, stows faster, and finds the sats faster. It also supports the Hopper III without the need for any adapters.

Two of our most important options were the heated floors and the Girard awning package. I've never heard of a powered bed lift option, but I never asked. I ended up building my own. It's sooooo nice to just push a button and have the bed lift. It makes the decision to put the table spacer and the extras chairs out so much easier.

I don't know much about the newer coaches, but for years, Newmar made the cabinets above the dinette curve in and more shallow than the all the other cabinets in the FWS. We had them make them the same depth all the way down the wall.

Many add a hot water line to the generator bay for washing off bugs. We also have the SaniCon system, which we've had since 2005 on our Diplomat. Both toilets in the DS are macerator toilets, so you don't necessarily need the chopping action of the SaniCon, but I'd buy it just for the hose that never has to be disconnected, cleaned or stored. I added as a "special" wiring for an electric black tank drain valve and extra SaniCon wires to the half bath. I can open my black tank valve, from inside the coach and with the SaniCon hose, the tanks just drain out in a few minutes. It's a great feature, especially on departure days. I open the black valve and then take a shower. By the time I'm done, the black tank is drained and the shower water chased it down the hose. I close the valve and once the slides are in, I cap the SaniCon hose and stuff it into the wet bay.

Don

Have you posted the details on your bed lift? Would be interested in your design and the parts used if you are so inclined (pun intended)

My first trip out my built in surge protector went out and I had to drive 1200 miles out of my way to Newmar to get a replacement transfer switch. I requested the switch to not have the surge protector as I read several issues about it being a bad design. I use a Bull Dog proector and have never looked back. Just My 2 cents, Thanks

Howdy Dan, You mention in a post above "Assuming you optioned in the MCD electric shades, you will be fine for shades. Magna Shades are great and you need to order a set of those too." I have the MCD day and night shades but was wondering if the Magna Shades would make a big enough difference to justify them. Any thoughts on that?
Thanks

Brannon Hutchinson, the owner of Custom RV in Vina, AL (just outside Red Bay) created mine which was originally installed in my 2016 Tiffin Bus. Brannon is one of the best after market specialist out there, and not just for Tiffins. His business is thriving and appointments can be as much as 6 months out.

Lynn, you are not very far from Brannon so give him a call.

I have electric dump valves on my wish list!

Here is the post I made on the bed lift. Unfortunately, the brackets are something that I made and welded up. The parts are cheap, as they're for turning solar panels.

Absolutely, the Magna shades stop the heat before it gets in the coach. MCD only traps the heat generated inside the coach.
