My RV stinks inside !

We purchased our 2019 Newmar New Aire brand new last September 2020. It’s has always smelled inside since the day of purchase. The RV did sit on the lot for over a year where the RV dealership did not have it plugged into power therefore not circulating the air inside. Even when we come back from camping, we have to wash all our clothes because the smell gets into our clothing. The smell even gets into our food where closed containers like spices even taste like the smell of the rv. We don’t think it’s mold just don’t know what it is. We’ve done some research on a device called Ozone Generator which its supposed to remove odors and be very effective. We found the article in an email from RV Life. Anyone deal with this before or have any suggestions ? thanks !

If you clean top to bottom and it still stinks, take lights / speakers out of the ceiling and see if it's wet up there or has signs of mold. Take a look at the roof to see if it's apparent where a leak still is, or one that has been patched.

Have others been asked take a sniff and tell you what they think they are smelling?

It's possible that the plastics used in manufacturing are still off gassing. Some people are more sensitive to that than others.
Is there carpeting in it? Another source of outgassing from the polyester twining.

We have one, and they do work well. Car dealerships use them on their used cars. We bought one for a used Corvette that we bought. Someone had smoked in the car and it cleared it up. After you run it, make sure you open the windows to air out the Ozone before spending much time inside, since ozone is not safe to breathe.

What kind of a smell is it? We had a chemical smell in ours for about a year. It comes from the epoxy grout, glues, furniture and plastics. It eventually went away. If it is a sewer or sour smell it is most likely the gray or black water tanks. We had to replace our air admittance valve in the half bath. If it is a musty or moldy smell, I would be a little more concerned and would be going back to the dealer.

Any chance some rodents got into the ceiling and died?
Or maybe something got into the sewer vent?

If by chance it's still under warranty, I'd bring it back to the dealer and tell them to give it back to you once the smell is gone. You shouldn't have to put up with that in a new coach.

Thanks for your reply. Good idea about taking the lights and speakers out to see if any sign of water leak/mold. I will have to try that. As for carpet, all tile except for a very tiny spot around the nightstands in the bedroom. The area is so small it has to be vacuumed with a hand vacuum. The RV does have ultra leather. Maybe it’s the smell of the couch and chairs.

Thanks for your reply! When you had the smell did you notice the smell getting into your food like spices and clothing ? We owned the same make and model RV before older year and used. Never had a smell like this one does and the points you made it could be what you mentioned.

Thanks for your reply. Doesn’t smell like something died it’s just strange, so strong too. It could be the ultra Leather. We have mentioned this to the dealership and they told us all the RVs smell like that. We plan to call newmar and ask. Their customer service has been pretty good so far.

Fill your grey and black tanks to about 1/2 - 3/4 full. Add a bacteria enhancement product. RidX is one there liquid ones made specifically for RV / Boat holding tanks. Wait over night or 24hrs if possible. Empty both tanks. Refill and flush again. Also check and make sure both vent stacks are free and clear. You’ll have to get up on the roof and take the covers off and shine a flashlight down the stack. Final check point are the vacuum valves in both stack lines. They vent the gas to the stacks. I’ve found that if one is stuck and not operating properly, running the water in each bathroom sink and popping the drain open and closed a few times makes the valve seal itself.
