Need Advice on Broken Screws in FW Slide-out
We have two screws in the slide-out trim with their heads sheared off. See photos. These two screws are on the bottom trim of the full-wall slide out.
Questions
1. To remove the existing screws, should I try to drill the center of the screws and use a screw extractor to remove the remaining screw body. They are small screws. They appear to be around 5/32" diameter.
2. Should I replace them with a stronger screw? If so, what should I look for?
Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Need Advice on Broken Screws in FW Slide-out
Before you replace the fasteners, you should find out why the original screw heads sheared off. You are under warranty. Repair, particularly if you have to drill out, can be done by the dealer, or a qualified RV facility.

We live full-time in our motor home and cannot take it to a dealer for repair. We are presently in Texas, headed for California.
Are you saying our warranty would be invalidated if I repair it myself?

Just do the repair. Drill or ez-out the screws and replace.

I suspect these are self drilling screws, and the where over torqued when originally installed, causing the head to fail. It's easy to do. I replaced 7 screws on my coach. I used a center punch to dimple the center of the screw, used a left hand drill bit and carefully drilled through the center of the screw. Several of my screws came out just using the left hand drill, the others came out using an ez-out style extractor. I replaced the screw with stainless self drilling screw. I found the left hand bits, EZ out, and screws at MSCDIRECT. COM

Mike,
That is exactly what I was considering.
Another option would be to move the new screw 1/2 inch to the right and caulk the old hole. I would need to confirm that method with Newmar since I don't know what's behind that area.

Rex, before you start drilling for the repair, I suggest you try a broken screw of the same size in a piece of wood. You might find that drilling out a small screw is not as easy at you might think. If you're successful, go for it and make the fix. Chuck

I contacted Newmar and they suggested I drill new holes and set new Stainless Steel screws in place. And to put silicone in the broken screw holes.
