Need help and advice Canyon Star handicap

Considering a wheelchair accessible Canyon Star. 3911

Would consider preowned but they are hard to find. Looking at '19 year model and have yet to see one in person. Videos and photos are nice, but I want to see one before I commit $$$$.

We are either selling or trading our DP coach and have never owned a gasser before. I have questions and worries I need help with please.
How are the brakes? Power in mountains? slides work OK? What problems have you encountered or do you know of?
Have some reservations about towing a 4 door Jeep Wrangler (and getting it stopped)
Give me the pros, cons and thoughts if you will. thanks

I am soon to order a Canyon Star 3924 but have discussed the 3911 with my cousin, who has a son in a motorized wheelchair.
In my nearly 4 years of full-timing, I have run across the 3911 and the diesel version...one each. The owners really liked them.and appreciated a manufacturer who offered that as a standard floor plan, not a super expensive special order.
Sorry I can't say more.

Hi,
Take the engine and chassis off your worry list. They are as reliable as the diesel engines and chassis. Do the recommended maintenance and you will be fine. Watch the weight of what you are wanting to tow. Compare it to the coach towing specs.

I'm in the process of ordering a 3911 right now. Had a modified Southwind gasser we just sold. We would have preferred a VDP but 44' is too long for us for storage, some campgrounds, and CA licensing. If Newmar offered a 40' accessible DP that would be my first choice.

I think the Wrangler 4 door will be OK if you don't add weight to it. It will help you brake. We are looking at the Wrangler too, and the Braun Ford Explorer. Researching a Banks system and 5-star tune to maximize the performance.

I've been in a 3911 in my power chair. Accessibility is fine. Not the way I would layout an accessible coach but I understand why Newmar has done it this way. Having the bathroom on opposing walls where there is no slide out is my biggest gripe. A bit of a choke point but workable.

I wouldn't worry about not seeing a '19. Find a 1,2,3 year old to look at. They haven't changed this floorplan in many years.

Any other questions send them out. I've done a ton of research on this.

I’ve been looking at the 3911 but not as an ADA coach. We’d order it with the higher cabinets and top mounted microwave. The first thing we’d do is pull the and store the wheelchair lift. Why? Because it’s the best layout for a travel coach for those with pets.

That said, the main change I’ve seen has been a newer monitor and lift mounted tv.

Not trying to be negative, having first owned a 2016 3710 CS then moving into a DP I would find it very hard to go back to a gaser. The CS would ware me out on a day that involved hills or wind. I made thousands of $ in upgrades to improve the handling, never was happy with it. You really should test drive a CS even if not the same model and see if you like it. Just my opinion.
