Negotiating on a 2017 Ventana 3709
We found a 2017 Ventana on a dealer's lot, the last one he has before the 2018's hit. Assuming he gives me 70% of Blue Book for our trade, I made an offer on the Ventana at 30% off of MSRP. He countered with a 19% discount.
So we're pretty far apart. Wonder where we should end up.

I bought a 2017 Ventana LE a month ago for 25% off and was feeling like I left a little on the table. I would think your 30% offer was appropriately aggressive and you would end up in the 25 to 28% range. All this assumes the trade-in is not in the equation.

Hi bobmoore1954,
The dealer is to proud of the coach. 30% off for a year end clearance model is not unreasonable. For me 35% would be aggressive on a year end deal.

i got current wholesale value for my coach, plus 29.7% of MSRP off my order...
and the wholesale trade in on my coach is locked in until the new coach comes in....
so his offer is way off...
he is banking that you don't want to wait for an '18
price an '18 and see what you get.....

To show you how far the dealers can go I'll chime in here. We were in the right place at the right time in February and our dealer was sitting on a left over 2016 Ventana 4322 that had a birthday on the lot. They were highly motivated to sell and I believe that Newmar helps the dealers with incentives to sell a coach that is over a year old. We were able to get a tad under 39% off of MSRP. I am online a lot and haven't seen another Newmar at that price, quite frankly not even close. There is room in your deal but those numbers indicate they are hoping that you are more motivated to buy than they are to sell.

On a Newmar I don't see anyone getting 35% plus off of MSRP unless there playing a numbers game with the trade-in... I just ordered a 2018 DSDP and got just over 29% off MSRP without a trade... I think you would do better on a 18 then getting a 17 from the dealer since they don't have to pay for floor planning witch makes them more apt to deal...

Out of curiosity, how are you gauging wholesale/book value of your RV's? I will be trading mine in as soon as I find the pre-owned Prevost I want, and I don't want (m)any surprises.

Bob you mention 'Blue Book'. Which one? Look at the NADA RV online book. Find your RV, look at the lowest price column and reduce that by 20%. That's going to be close to what you might get. Trade-ins allow for very funny numbers. You want a high trade value and dealer will give you a lower discount off of MSRP. Almost universally the discount will be lower on the gas/low end diesels than the high end like a King Aire.
There are dealers that deal and those that don't. Even ones that are repeatedly mentioned on the forum as having great prices may or may not want to do a trade in. Good example, the folks at NIRVC will take a trade in Class A, less than 5 years old, but no travel trailers/5th wheels. They know what they can sell and are up front with you.
Consider selling your current setup on Craigslist or through RVTrader. You will likely do better.
What do you have now?

Agreed unless you find a dealer with a leftover like we did. We got 39% off MSRP and the trade value was where is should have been. I think those deals are rare and few and far between. If you can get 25% off MSRP IMHO that is a respectable deal.
