New Baystar problem

Hey gang.
We have a new 2022 Newmar Baystar.
What a s### storm. We bought the coach in Pismo Beach. One mile from leaving the dealer the exhaust system fell off the motorhome. The dealer brought the coach to a local Ford dealer for repair. The entire system aft of the catalytic converter was replaced. The unit was finally delivered to us in San Diego Friday. It has a very bad vibration at low speeds. What do you think?
Thanks
Dan

Either drive shaft or wheels. You should have the wheels balanced as that's necessary regardless and easier to do.

What dealer if I may ask? We’re going to look at a Baystar in that area this weekend?

Did you call the dealer and report it? Certainly the dealers driver must have noticed it! Since it is at low speeds--raise it up using the levelers and check for loose wheel lugs. Yeah tires and drive shaft will cause vibrations--but usually not at road speeds--not "low" speeds.

It's hard for me to believe anyone would drive any vehicle from PB to SD with that kind of vibration!

Tail pipe end fell off

Not the same extent of the problem you describe, but for what it’s worth, the tail pipe (last two feet or so of the exhaust system) fell off our 2021 BayStar on a trip a few months ago. Unfortunately, it went under the rear wheels, careened off the wheel fender of the UHaul trailer we were towing and hit the front corner post of a pickup in the adjacent lane. Most fortunately, no one was injured, but it sure was an unwelcome shock for us and the other vehicle. Found a Midas shop nearby that welded a new tailpipe end on which I know won’t come loose.

For other owners of newer BayStars reading this, I recommend you give the end of your tailpipe a good kick to ensure it’s mounted securely. If it gives at the joint, I would drill a hole through the joint and run a long metal screw or bolt through it for safe measure. And who knows, a kick might also tell you if the entire exhaust is loose.

Did they have to disconnect the drive shaft to install the new exhaust? If so they might have installed the u-joints out of phase or some other assembly problem. Also maybe the old exhaust knocked the drive shaft out of balance while it was exiting? Do they use balancing weights on those drive shafts?

Sky River. We got a very competitive price on a 2022 Baystar.

My wife crawled under the coach and found a dent in the driveshaft adjacent to the edge of the muffler. I suspect when the muffler hit the ground it bounced up and hit the driveshaft

That would do it! I wouldn't drive it, as more damage can occur.

YIKES! That size dent in your driveshaft is a proverbial "Red X" issue. I would not drive it!! Because of the torque on the driveshaft between the engine and differential, it could easily twist into spiral, come apart, and do far more damage to the chassis and coach components in the area! This is likely a continuing warranty claim that Sky River never should have moved off of their lot, let alone from PB to SD! Get a reputable repair shop in SD to work with you and hope Sky River will pick up the tab. Regardless, worth you paying if need be to get it done right!!!!

Blessings and best regards.

Had a similar vibration in my unit. It was a bent drive shaft from a trip to Alaska.
