New motorhome tires

What make and size tires are being installed on 2020 and 2021 Newmar motorhomes? I have tried to purchase Michelin 305/70/R22.5 tire for my 2016 Ventana. I was told Michelin didn’t produce my size tire in 2020. All that’s available is dated 2018 or 2019. That being said has anyone gotten a new motorhome with 305/70/R22.5 Michelin tires. Maybe they changed the brand or size tires on 40’ motorhomes?

The tires are shipped with the chassis and according to Freightliner they are supplying XRV 305/70/R22.5 on the 40' chassis for 2021. Interesting though is the fact that they have gone for 315/80/R22.5 on the 43' chassis.
Toyo make a 305/70/R22.5 if you can't get the Michelin. I am personally looking at 295/75/R22.5 as a replacement as the corner weghts on my coach are low enough not to need the bigger tires.

Michelin just started making the 315/80/R22.5 tires on 1/10/2021. I just was able to get some for my MADP.

I'm not sure I have the fender clearance to go from a 305 to 315. Most DS run the 315 and the ones I've looked at have very little clearance at the rear duals especially when aired down. I think there is plenty of clearance on the front or tag for 315s. If someone is running 315s on a 40' I would be very interested. I don't think I have seen a Ventana with 315s.

The recommended rim size for the 315's is 9" and you and me have 8.25" rims. Might work, but I don't need the carrying capacity so am not looking at those.

Would suggest 295-70-22.5 over the 295-75-22.5. The 70 tire has a higher caring capacity and is not as tall as the 75 which will keep speedometer closer. Did this with a DS and were very happy to not have the 305. It made the coach look better by filling the tire opening in the wheel wells.

Thanks for the replies. I think I going to go with 2 or 4 of the Toyo 305/70/r22.5 to start with. I will get an all wheel alignment prior to installing new tires. This way I can split the cost over two years.

I have to rant a little......several years ago, the 22.5 tire prices went up $200 -$300 a tire because oil had hit a $100 a barrel. At least that was there argument. I never understood how it took 2-3 more barrels of oil to make one tire.

Once oil went back down to $30 a barrel, the tire prices stayed artificially high. To add insult to injury, the RV manufacturers put Michellin on their coaches, yet Michellin only makes a run of certain tires, a couple of times a year, constantly causing shortages. I wish there was a way to get these manufacturers to boycott Michellin and knock their sales down a couple of notches. This hasn't been a Covid issue as they were doing this before the pandemic.

Okay...I feel better now. I've actually emailed Hankook and have asked them to offer more tires in RV sizes. They make a great tire at a reasonable price.

I would suggest that you stick with the larger tires. Even though your corner weights are low, with the smaller tires you will have to inflate your smaller tires to a higher psi. You will get a harder ride.

Sadly, that happens all over the place...in many different industries...

People get used to the higher price, that is claimed to be a reaction to a temporary "need/cause/calamity".... Then that industry keeps the inflated prices, when things get back to normal...

I hate it when that happens...

I'm already seeing some of that, more in reduced level/quality of services rather than price, because of the Covid pandemic...

stang37 --

I have a one year old set of Hankook AH37 "regional haul" tires on my coach that provide a nice ride (I had to replace the OEM Michelin XZE tires that had significant sidewall cracking for only being four years old!). The AH37 unfortunately does not come in the 305/70R22.5 size. However, the Hankook AU04 "urban" tire is available in the 305/70R22.5 size. I don't know if "urban" tires provide a nice ride while traveling at 60-70 mph. Here is the link to Hankook's catalog --> https://www.hankooktire.com/us/files...BR_catalog.pdf

I purchased my Hankooks through FMCA's discount tire program.

Tires

Stang 37, just purchased 8 new Michelin tires in the size you mentioned for my 2015 Dutch Star. The date codes were 2/21 and 3/21.

Medpro - Jerry,
Can you share more information on your purchase. Where/who did you acquire from? Did you use a buying program? What was you final price?....Etc
Thanks
