New Owner Questions - 2014 Dutch Star
I've read through the manuals and literature, did some searching, but still have some unanswered questions. I thought I would ask here first and then call Newmar with ant unanswered questions.
1) Does the Dutch Star have a BIRD system or method of charging the chassis batteries while connected to shore power?
2) There is a remote fuel filter near the nose of the generator....is this for the Oasis Heating?
3) There is a built-in, inline brass tube on the fresh water hose. Is this a water regulator and if so, what pressure is it?
4) On my previous coach, the Trimarck remote entry momentarily lit my running lights when locking or unlocking the coach. Is my Dutch Star suppose to do this.....mine doesn't.
5) As a follow up to the above, does anyone know where they placed the Trimarck unit?
6) I had to hunt down the inverter and found it mounted between the frame rails in the slide out bay. On my previous coach, if I overloaded a circuit, the inverter breakers were the first to pop. On the Dutch Star, I would have to slide the slide tray out and crawl into the bay to reset.....has this been an issue?
7) I looked in the literature and may have missed it, but is there a CB prep....and if so, where is it located.
Thanks

Yes you have a Bird System to maintain all your battery systems as long as its plugged in to shore power amd while traveling the alternator will charge all batteries.
Information can be found in these two links found in QT's #3.--- 12V BATTERY SYSTEM---- 12V WIRING SYSTEM
The Bird unit I believe you will find on drivers side in compartment, near rear duels, back wall behind a Velcro flap alone with a fuse panel.
Information on Trimark.
#6 have not heard of problems with inverter tripping on forum.
#7 If you have a ANT the cable and power is found in a plastic bag under dash near steering wheel.

1) Does the Dutch Star have a BIRD system or method of charging the chassis batteries while connected to shore power?
Yes, leave all battery switches on.
2) There is a remote fuel filter near the nose of the generator....is this for the Oasis Heating?
It's for the genny.
3) There is a built-in, inline brass tube on the fresh water hose. Is this a water regulator and if so, what pressure is it?
Yes, all though I don't have it. My guess is standard 55 psi.
4) On my previous coach, the Trimarck remote entry momentarily lit my running lights when locking or unlocking the coach. Is my Dutch Star suppose to do this.....mine doesn't.
No, it will not light up any outside lights.
5) As a follow up to the above, does anyone know where they placed the Trimarck unit?
The brain box is mounted on top of the steering column just barely under the dash.
Has not even been an issue for us. It's a 2800 watt inverter. It will run a lot of things, then the EMS will shut down over loads.
I have accidentally tested this. Your EMS will use the inverter to, temporary, supplement power to the coach when on 20/30 amp power.
So say you're plugged into a 30 amp pedestal and have 2 AC units on, then you throw something into the microwave. The inverter will run the microwave without interrupting the ACs. The same for the stove top and some outlets.
What I did while plugged into 30 amp: Had 2 AC going, microwave and 1 burner on the stove top (wife was cooking supper), then I plugged in the vacuum (not thinking we were on 30 amp). The EMS shut down my vacuum in a hurry.
After all high loads have been shed, in goes back to battery charging.
7) I looked in the literature and may have missed it, but is there a CB prep....and if so, where is it located.
I talked to Newmar about this, they stopped doing CB preps in 2012.
Thanks

Hope this helps.

I believe the brass fitting you are looking at is a check valve. It is a sharkbite and it does not look like their pressure regulators. I would call Newmar on the fuel filter in the front, I would wonder why they would install a second filter on the Geny as it has one built in. I would suspect it is for the Oasis as I have not seen a filter near the Oasis for it's fuel.

Thanks for the help. I checked the lines on the fuel filter and they run toward the rear of the coach, not the generator. I will call Newmar on this one. Thanks for all the other answers though. I meant to call Newmar today, but got busy installing a SaniCon macerator. I want to order a towel bar and another pantry drawer if possible.

Dutch Star Don ... this filter is for the Oasis burner. Mine is a Gar-Ber Type “R” Epoxy Coated Spin-On Filter. Easy to change when needed.
