I don't post here much but I wanted to check in and let everyone know that Monday we purchased our new home. It is a 2007 All-Star 3950. My husband an I are just starting the full-time lifestyle with 3 small kids in tow an we love this floorplan.

All has been well except a mishap tonight. We bought th coach in New Mexico and we have been driving home to Savannah the last couple of days. We are in Mississippi and we just lost the Newmar rock guard off the back. Unfortunately it did some damage when it came off. I have sent an email and pictures of the damage to the dealer tonight to see what they can do to replace and repair.

Hopefully this will be the worse thing that will happen with our All-Star.

Hello Bonnie and WELCOME to iRV2!!

For those of you that don't put two and two together, Bonnie is the wife of iRV2 member "Nathan Focht" and we're glad to have you BOTH!!

Those pesky rock guards really have been known to be a pain....Mine swung so erratically it wore two spots out of the rear corners of the coach as I drove down the road....

There have been several instances where other members have had issues with the guard, I'll let them chime in....

WELCOME!!

Does anyone end up removing he rock guard? Ours is currently on the side of Hwy 78 in Mississippi since the one down side of the All-Star is a lack of storage. There was no place to put it and we don't have all of Nathan's tools and bungees yet. Luckily we did have one small tool set withus so we were able to loosen the bolts and remove it.

Congrats on the AllStar! Yes, many do indeed remove the rock quard as they have determined when traveling(especially in Mexico/Alaska) it actually brings up more rocks than it puts down! We have modified ours raising it and moving it forward which helps with the clearance but not with the rocks. Lost both headlights and parking lights along with about twenty chips in the windshield of our toad(fortunately we purchased an old Jeep for the trip so no worries).

Hi Bonnie, We also have Allstar 3950. Our rock guard is taken off unless we are towing somthing. I started taking it off to work on the hitch. I am building a storage box bike rack system. It is not finished but we have used it several times.
I store tools and bike parts in the boxes.
We also had problems with the rock gaurd hitting the fiberglass corners of the Allstar so I tied it forward with two rubber bungy cords. You should be able to see them in the photo.

Hi jjbsmith,
Your pics are great. I noticed that one could not see the coach liscense plate. On a slow crime day an officer could cite you for this. Consider placing the tag where it can be seen.

Hi Gary, good point! It's on my list of unfinished items. We had just returned from moving our daughter to Forest Grove (Portland OR). She will be in school there for the next four years. We are hoping to visit her frequently in the Allstar.
We were towing a utility trailer full of furneture so I left the licence behind the boxes. It was very observant of you to notice the obscured licence plate. Are you a retired police officer?

I LOVE THAT IDEA!!!!

We are going to be pulling a 25ft Travel Trailer so I am not sure I want to put anything in the gap and cut turning radius even more. But, I think that I am going to "borrow" your idea for the rear of the trailer. A couple large boxes at the bumper and then a 4 bike carrier up over head. Really like the look too.

Back to the guard, now that I can look in the daylight, it looks like it has been rubbing the unside of the body even before it came loose. I am wondering if you take the chains and weld the links so it can swing a bit but not freely. I also think I will trim it so that it is not so tall. We were on a straight empty road but it was rough.

I wonder if it was hitting the ground on hard bounces and stuffing into the coach. Thoughts???

Bob,
No, I have never been in law enforcement. I've just been around long enough to have personal experience or know someone close who has.

Nathan, We are pulling an 10 foot trailer with a 5 foot tougne (sp?) and we have lots of clearance for turning radius. Regarding the rock guard, it's the wind that drives it up into the body. This is also prbably why the rocks can get past it to hit your trailer. If you don't get it working propely the rocks will bounce off your trailer and chip the back of your Allstar.
Good luck,
