New Plug 50 amp cord ?

What is the best plug to replace the bad one on my MH . The Camco ones just won’t hold the wires in it. So I need a better one that will hold the cord inside it. Thanks

okie mopar-

I have a 30A coach, and used the 30A version of this 50A plug made by Progressive Industries.

I am glad you posted this because I have the same problem. The casing has pulled out of the plug body and I fear water intrusion. I am concerned that a crappy one will be worse. I will watch and if I find a good one I'll post it here. If I had a lot of money I'd replace the cord with a nice flexible one but you know.....

Plug

I would like to see a picture of the inside to see what clamps on the line to keep it attached.

After a year, the 50 amp cord that came with my 5er did the same thing. I ended up purchasing a Camco 50 amp (yellow) male plug to replace the one that was pulling.

The second thing I did was purchase a new 25 foot 50 amp cord.
The third thing I did was purchase a new 50 foot 50 amp extension cord (4 prongs one end, 4 on the other end).

I thought I could use the new 25 foot cord and if needed use it with the 50 foot extension.

But, after I replaced the stretched one with the Camco 50 amp yellow end, I decided to just continue using it instead of the new ones. But I changed my method a little.

Face it, that cord is extremely heavy. To take some of the weight off the end of the cord where it attaches to the plug, I simply re-routed the wire like this. I do similar at campgrounds now too. Sometimes I do have to pull out the 50 foot extension to relieve the weight off the plug itself, because the distance from the power told to the back of the camper is just too far. But his has worked quite well.... using the Camco yellow plug. (see photos below):

Try this

I used this stuff for a long time on my molded 50 amp plug where the casing separated from the plug head. Available at Home Depot as well and comes in a few colors. Will allow you to use the original cable and plug. Needs replacing every so often after being dragged in the dirt. Make sure you stretch when applying. Un-wrapping it is tough as it sticks to itself. Just wrap from the cable over the base of the plug.

Yep, same problem here - 3 times in the last 2 1/2 years! Even bought a brand new 35' 50amp cable with fused end plug and that lasted less than a year. Always the same problem - what ever clamp it has will not hold the casing in the plug tightly. Went to an Arcon #19186 (available many places including Walmart online) that has a pull handle that helps it out of the post outlet. I can't use those Camco ones because they are too big for my basement egress hole. The Arcon has a very strong strain relief and I tightened it til I was afraid I'd strip the bolts. Only time will tell but so far, so good. I find the hardest stain is when I use adapters to get to 20amp in my shed. Very hard to break apart so I have taken to using a LARGE screwdriver (after disconnecting!!) to pry out the prongs from the adapter(s). This seems to reduce the pulling on the cord. My problem has never been the strain while connected to the power pole, always during the disconnect and pulling back into the basement.

If you apply about 3-4 wraps of duct tape to the end of the wire insulation covering it will help keep cable from pulling out of connector. The tape only needs to be about 1/4”- 1/2” wide.

….some of the issue--is proper installation.....some plugs are better than others but you have to be pretty precise about trimming and securing the wires in the plug....its not easy but when trimmed to proper length, the wire connectors should help secure the cord jacket into the plug.....good luck
