Newbie

I am recently semi retired after 40 years of owning and operating a small business. My lovely wife and I have always dreamed of being able to take our time and explore this beautiful country. Traveled a little with my brother in his motorhome and got the fever to have one of our own. We are in the process of buying a 2007 Newmar Essex 45' from a private owner in Arizona. As I make this purchase if there are any specific things that I should be aware of on this model coach, I would appreciate input. Will likely be asking a lot of questions on this site and would like to thank you all for patience in advance.

Looking forward to a new journey.

Congrats! That is super exciting. I would recommend that you consider a formal inspection to ensure you fully understand what you are walking into and that the needed repairs are within your scope or level of interest in repairing. Happy shopping!!

Welcome to the forum, Daryl
With in this link you will find a link for ESSEX Owners.
Here is a thread by a 2007 Essex owner and what he had done to his ESSEX.
A formal inspection may not give you the full story if you read the links I have given you, its not to discourage you only being up front as to what you will be getting into.
The ESSEX is a great coach but old technology of that year and would need to be upgraded or replacement to standard systems operations which other people have done also at less cost, some threads in the ESSEX Link.
Good luck in your decisions and their is a Newmar for you I'm positive of that.

Welcome to the family......

Perhaps the best advice I can offer is have an RV specific inspector go over your potential purchase.

RVs have lots of moving parts, if you will. Roof, plumbing, electrical, owner maintenance, are all part of the"house" family.

Tires, brakes, engine, engine maintenance, are part of the chassis family.

An RV inspector can help you greatly knowing what you are getting.

Good luck - all the best - and again welcome.

This is what I have always posted when asked about buying a used MH

"Once you find a MH you are interested in, get professional inspections done. If you don't do this BEFORE you purchase, you run the risk of spending significantly more AFTER the purchase. If something is found, the inspector should be able to give you an estimate to repair. You can then decide if you want to proceed and can use it to negotiate a better price. You will be going into it with your eyes open. IF nothing is found, GREAT!!

I would suggest that you get an independent certified RV mechanic to inspect all the RV systems, including the roof. In addition I would have the engine, transmission, frame, etc. inspected by a diesel service shop. Having a coolant and oil analysis by a lab (like JG Lubricants ) would reveal any hidden problems.

Make sure everything is in writing!! Any purchase should be contingent upon successfully passing these inspections/tests.

I would do this to any used MH I was looking to buy.

If you buy the Essex there is a Facebook group that has over 500 member/owners that own "Newmar Luxury Line" coaches. Great resource for those models.
