Newbies on First Trip — help!
Hey all!! Newbies here (and when I mean newbie, I mean NEWBIE! First ever RV, first ever RV trip).
We just got our 2018 Ventana Le 4042 and left southern WI this morning.
Question: how do we get heat running in the back of the coach? We have a Dometic thermostat and a furnace which runs on propane (and I think electric).
Hubby turned the propane off for travel. Generator is on for the fridge to run. For some reason all the air in the coach (other than the dash) is blowing cold even though the thermostat is set to Furnace and set at 72.
We also have heat pumps.
Any ideas what we are doing wrong? Thanks!!!

I think your heat pumps will not work below a certain temperature, either 40 or 45. Also your rear furnace will not work with the propane off. No reason to turn off propane while traveling.

Not knowing your coach, but knowing mine, you should have the propane on for the furnace to function... I don't know of any electric furnaces...

This isn’t related to your furnace and not sure if you have the residential refrigerator or propane, but you shouldn’t have to run the generator while driving to keep the refrigerator cold. Either use propane or the batteries / alternator if residential style.

I assume if you have a propane tank then you have a regular propane furnace and not an Oasis system. As someone said you need to keep your propane on, especially if your temps are going to be cold. If the furnace won't fire after turning propane on then get back.

Thanks so much! For some reason hubby thought propane had to be off while travelling.

Thanks — yes we have to figure that out. For some reason our residential fridge only turns on when the generator is running. We haven’t yet plugged in to 50 amp shore power so we don’t know (but assume) that it will run when plugged in.
As soon as we turn the generator off, both the fridge and the microwave turn off.

If you have a residential style refrigerator make sure the inverter is turned on for it to work when not plugged in or running the generator.

Surprised you have to run the generator to power the refrigerator. Don't you have a inverter that does that when unplugged from shore power? If you're running the generator and it's warm enough outside you could use the heat pumps for heat. But the thermostat has to be set for heat pumps not furnace. Like others have said, propane has to be turned on to use furnace.

Two things. First if you use the heat pumps (HP) on control , you need the generator running. Second if you use the furnace you need LP turned on.
You don’t need to run the generator for Refig. But you do need to ensure your inverter in on.
Do not be afraid to call Newmar. They are very good at returning calls. You should have a small sticker in your drivers side window with the number

Hi Hoosierfans,
1. Your furnace is propane fueled. The propane must be on.
2. Set the refer on auto. It will automatic switch to propane when you travel. Electric when you are connected to shore power of the generator is running.
Turn on the propane and the these problems will be solved. Run the stove to purge air from the lines. Leave propane on all the time. There is no need to run the generator to power the refer. It will decide automatically which fuel source is available and switch to that fuel source (propane or electric). The refer needs 12 volt DC electric to run and will get this power from the coach batteries.
All heat pumps are different. When set to heat pumps, if it gets too cold for them to work properly they will switch to the furnace, That being said there will be more cold air blowing than one might put up with before they switch. Might consider setting to furnace if the temp is going below 40 degrees. Or 45 degrees depending on how much cold air you can stand.

Hi Rotten-Red,
An LE can have either propane or inverter operated. The standard refer is Norcold® 10 Cu. Ft. Refrigerator with Black Panel Front. The optional refers are inverter powered. How do you know they have a residential refer.?
