I aim to tackle this project and I'll let you know what I settle on. I will likely change both TVs anyway to something I prefer for technical reasons (input flexibility, upscaling performance, chroma 4:4:4, etc.) and I may decide to run active FO cables for fidelity. I'll let you know how it goes, including what I did wrong, what I'm looking to change and why.

I looked into HDMI extenders, but all need to be in line of sight. Could not find one radio frequency. Keep me posted.

Newmar Omniview 360 Camera
When in reverse gear on a Newmar coach the camera defaults to the regular rear view camera.
Unless someone can enlighten me on how to configure the Omniview 360 camera to go on rather than the normal rear view camera when in reverse gear, IMHO the 360 camera looses the VAST majority of its value.
Moving backwards is when it would have been great to have a 360 bird’s eye view. Cars have this functionality. The Omniview camera really should have provide the same.
Had I known this in advance, I would not have purchased the 360 camera option. Yes there are some benefits in forward gear, but not enough. It was a waste of money.
Back to the tried and true old school: mirrors and a spotter.

The system should trigger reverse camera with a feed wire letting it know you're in reverse. Find out which one is the reverse lead and disconnect it or put a switch on it to turn on and off that feed. That should give you what you want. I do not have that system but I'm looking into other aftermarket options, and of those two, both have the 360 view while in reverse, based on user option.

This didn’t sound right so I did a little digging on Newgle. According to the Omniview user’s manual, when the vehicle is placed in reverse, the view mode automatically switches to the surround view + rear view.
Either a setting is off, or the unit isn’t working properly.

I’m in the process of getting a quote from brigade as well. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know who makes the factory 360 system? And what is the approximate cost of this option ?
Thanks

Don’t know the manufacturer, but the Newmar option is $2793.

24thrd- thanks. That’s good to know.
Also, on the factory system, when the turn signal activates a left or right view, is it a “top down” view of the lane on the side, or is it a “front to back” view down the length of the coach (as you would see with non-360 std cam system ?
Thanks again !!

On mine it is the length of the coach when the turn signal is activated but I use the 360 view while driving.

When the turn signal is on it defaults to the basic camera. The 360 view goes away entirely. Just as what happens when in reverse - it switches back to the basic camera - there is no 360.
Newgle has information in the Omniview manual that is contrary to how it actually works in the DS. Further down on the Newgle page there is a Knowledge article “limited use in reverse and turns”. As of today, that link goes to an “Invalid Page” i.e. no information.
They took the most valuable functionality away from what could have been a great option.

Ask Red Baron about the 360 System. He is extremely knowledgably about those kind of things and maybe he can instruct you how to get the 360 view while backing up.

On our Ventana the 360 camera defaults to a split screen and the top down view is always there. The right side of the screen is selectable and will automatically change with turns or backing up. I agree that the top down view important all the time and use it while parking. Possible these options change over time and that is why some say it goes away with backing.

I did not like the 360 systems method of changing views on me when turn signals and backup events happened. The screen on the left was good for that purpose.
I disconnected the backup and turn signal connections to the 360 controller. Now my screen will remain where it was no matter what I do with signals or reversing.

In automotive, there are very specific requirements for all vehicles now sold for rear view cameras that are required by the Feds. How much time it takes to render a rear view picture once reverse is engaged, the width, depth, quality, night performance etc.
My department at FCA was glad the regulation came in because it helped make the business case of leveraging that now required screen / touchscreen for all of our other infotainment features, since all autos required the cost of the screen to be added to the vehicle BOM.
Wondering if the RVs OEMs are subject to same or anticipating same regulations or are just pulling parts from the Car OEMs basket again or are gleaning insights on safety from the Fed auto requirements.
Either way, my RV camera monitor (head unit) has a switch to operate on reverse or manual, whichever position the switch is in. Most of the time it's on manual as there is no windshield rear view mirror like in most autos.
