Engines and transmissions are specified by the builder to be optimum for the price point. FL has a larger market share. Spartan, if comparing within model, may have a slightly better ride on the more costly models. Thing is, what one does one year the other will do in a couple of years since they each compete against the other.
Final suggestion: If you have the time, take the factory tours and then decide on which you prefer.

Agree! Owned an 02 KSDP 3669 on a FL, then traded for an 06 KSDP 3910 loaded with all DS amenities. Drove the latter for 15 years with no significant issues or costs. Now downsized (see my signature) to a used one on a FL. Way too old to go new, but needed to downsize. Is one better the the other. IMHO, the answer is no. I have always been an OEM believer; always, and still do, took my rigs back to the maker every year for service (Nappanee, Charlotte, or Gaffney) Found that many Cummins dealers would work on Spartan chassis. FL has their Oasis system. So, I agree, it is a Pepsi vs Cokes; Ford vs Chevy thing. What a world it would be if we did not have a choice between Ford or Chevy. Competition breeds ingenuity.
