Newmar New Aire height clearance

I am considering trading up to a Newmar New Aire. My problem is my garage width is fine but the height is only a 12'1" opening.
Is that adequate ? Is there a model less high than others? if not , i have read some people say it is possible to lower air bags to only drive straight into garage?
Raising garage door higher or altering opening will not work without raising roof...Am I S@#t out of luck?

The New Aire is spec'd out at 12'3" but normally that is generous. My coach is advertised as being 12'9" and my garage door is 12'8.5" and it fits through with about 2" to spare. Maybe you could test drive one and bring it home to see if it would fit.

Hi Jespo,

The New Aire is 12’3” so you MIGHT be able to drop all the air and clear your garage door IF your driveway is perfectly level, (no up or down grades at all).

This is where I finally get to use what I learned from helping my kids with their homework.

Slope is rise divided by run expressed as a percentage. From what you’ve posted, if you’re lucky, and actually do achieve a full 3 inch drop by dumping all the air, you may have 1 inch of rise across a run of 35 feet, or 420 inches to play with.

1 inch divided by 420 inches per is .00238, which is a 0.238% slope. Not much room for error to keep from scraping the front or back of your coach, which is why the driveway leading into your garage needs to be perfectly level.

I would be surprised if air suspensions are built to allow for this small of a tolerance. I don’t believe the consistency from one dump to the next would be within this tolerance.

Thanks for info, chuck and angie. Best option is to have dealer drive to house and see if it fits, I dont want to build another garage. I appreciate the input and suggestions.

Does the New Aire allow air to remain dumped while in motion or will it be refilling the bags as soon as it is shifted into gear? This is something discussed each time this question of tight fit comes up. If it's refilling you could get stuck in the door as it rises.

I know my '13 MA starts filling (except for the tag). New coaches may be different. When I got this coach I had to detach and jack the roof on my shed to get the clearance I needed. My two Journeys were under 12'. MA is 12' 10".

Angie.....Very impressive as always. You can easily get a position in a Math Department if you decide to get out of the RV business. You always amaze us with your vast wealth of knowledge. Tom

As Angie & others have said- you can drop the air out of the air bags & gain about 4" lower heigth. Have someone watch you closely the first time in the door.

CAUTION- you can only drive straight forward or reverse - do NOT TURN the steering wheel as the front tires will contact the front fender wells & rip them off or damage them severly!!!

Happy Trails

Thanks Bill. That helps a lot.
Does the air start filling when you start engine or start driving or is there a switch to engage air bag fill?
