Newmar Safety Recall Notice No. 22V-166

I received this Safety Recall Notice in the mail from Newmar today... My Ventana is at my local dealer having my solar system installed so hopefully this issue can be resolved while it's there.

Well good luck with that. Although Newmar is notifying customers I don’t think they have parts ready to send to the field. At least they didn’t two weeks ago when mind was in the shop.

The date of this Safety Recall Notice is May 11, that would be 8 days ago so it appears your coach was in the shop prior to this recall notice. Additionally, as I read the notice, it has to do with the upper nut/bolt connecting the steering column not being torqued down correctly. It's a .8 hour fix and no parts are mentioned being necessary.

I feel fairly confident my dealer will get this issue taken care of while my Ventana is in the shop for other items being installed.

It’s really interesting that you got a recall notice. I went into the check to the NHTSA website to see if my 19 London Aire was included and under that recall number there is only 58 coaches listed, they were 2021-22 New Aire and 2021-22 Dutch Stars.

I even dug deeper into the overall Ventana line and I can find where any Ventanas were included. I don’t doubt you got the notice but you might want to call Newmar and ask it that notice was a mistake. Being a Honda dealer I have seen where manufacturers have sent out notices by mistake.
Attached is what I found.

Got the same letter yesterday too. I called Newmar they said call the dealer. Dealer said it would take less than an hour. I asked if I could call freightliner they said no call dealer.

The recall sounds urgent. I told the dealer it does not make since to drive 2 hours to get a steering fix done. They already fixed two coaches that had the problem which could be felt turning the wheel described as a “notch” or bump when turning. At least I don’t feel that.

Not happy to travel 4 hours when a freightliner dealer is across the street from storage. Just part of the fun. Yeehaw

This sounds like the problem experienced by a forum member recently. He was on the road and the steering column decided it didn’t want to turn right any more. That could have been disastrous.

You’re right.

The video link was included in the first post by the OP. But at the end of his post it now says [MOD EDIT] and no link.

Looks like a moderator removed it for some reason.

I received an email this morning from my Service Advisor at my local Newmar dealer... As I thought, this issue will be taken care of while my Ventana is in the shop having some aftermarket accessories installed...

I received the recall notice yesterday as well and immediately thought of this post and video. Figured I would check the bolt myself and maybe install a cotter pin or red Loctite. Why would they delete the video??? I cannot find it on YouTube either.

Would be great if someone has that link still.

I also received the letter yesterday, checked with Brandon and that will be addressed when I have the coach at NIRVC for service at the end of June. No Notchy steering as of yet.

I pulled my steering column cover to check the bolt, and all is good and tight. Sure looks like a conical lock nut on it. I will add it to my list of things to check if I don't get it to a dealer within the year.

I did find a strange KIB button - see link to my post below. Also, the wires for this KIB button were riding right on the self-tapping screw they used for the steering column cover. I moved it so it will not rub and chafe.

Why would your dealer address a nonexistent issue?

The recall only covers 58 2021-2022 New Aires and Dutch Stars.
