Newmar Slide Function

I am having some strange issues on my slides and I am wondering if it is normal or not? For example:

- a week ago on one of the small slides the locks extended when the slide was out. I pressed the slide switch again, they locked and the slide slid into place normally and locked.

- Yesterday, I press the large slide switch to slide it back in, I get the voice and nothing happens. I release the switch, press it again and slide functions normally.

- I have had the large slide lock and unlock, but not slide at all.

I am aware that having proper power is an issue, so I always slide on shore power or gen set. It doesn't make sense to me that modules would be bad if they work normally some time, but maybe???

Is this normal or not?

Not normal and not desirable. Don't know the age of your coach, but clean battery connections is the first place to start.

Also, operating the slides on Shore power or gen set is helpful, but not sufficient. Higher voltage is helpful and this is achieved by having the charger in bulk charging (14V) instead of float charging.

Lastly, you can search/review my posts and learn about my efforts to get my slides working properly. There are connectors I believe that had oxidized and needed to be cleaned.

Lastly, for the slide not moving after the voice starts, there is an adjustment you can make on the slide out controller to give the slide motor more power.

I have had this happen occasionally when my finger slips off the button. I have found that pushing the button and holding it for a second or two seems to eliminate the problem.

I've had the locks deploy when one bedroom slide reached its full out limit. The locks retracted when I brought the slide in and redeployed as advertised when the slide stowed. The locks on my are activated by a proximity switch on the slide mechanism. I increased the gap between the switch and the mechanism and that stopped the locks deploying when the slide is out.
We have four slide outs and ran into trouble trying to bring in the big slide after being camped in the pines at Lake Waldena this past February. Slide would come in about 8 inches and stop. Part of the rubber seal on the top forward corner of the slide got in a bind, I guess some pine resin made it sticky. I cleaned and lubed the seal and got the slide in and locked.
I frequently check and retorque the slide motor bolts and am sure to keep the seals clean. We've had no issues since.

If you have 12v slide locks the slide locks can get water in them when slides are open.
In QT's 1 & 2 there are threads for the slide systems and trouble with slide locks. The slide will not operate if the slide locks are not funtioning correctly.
There can also be problems with the activation push button if it doesn't release correctly.
All problems explained in the link.
You can also use the Newmar search engine.

Thanks for the comments. The entire battery set is new on this coach, so I would hope the connections are good but I will check. I do need to operate the slides on the generator frequently, so I will have to determine how to shove more voltage to the battery when it might be in float mode.

Re: Slide out problems

I have had similar problems and contacted the manufacturer of the slide out boards. They told me they had many of these type of problems with Newmar coaches and the problem is with how Newmar connects the ground going to the boards. They told me to run a new ground wire from the board directly to the battery. I did and now my slides work normally. Hope this helps.

Newmar thinks that it is the slide proximity switches. Does anyone have a picture of a proximity switch? They said it was in an ABS box of some sort. I might find it quicker if someone has a picture.

Not sure - the tech I spoke with said that it is a switch that tells the controller the position of the slide (in or out). They said it was in an ABS box in the basement or wheel compartment for that particular slide. He called it a proximity switch.

The slide control will shut down movement of motor when slide stop rods reach their limits on rod stops, the current increases as slide hits the stops and control knows to shut down the motor for your coach.
The FWS's have not looked into their operation being hydraulic.
