Dometic is really backed up.

Tom Lindstrom in California ordered about 110 units this year, which means he'll get about 9 units a month until next model year. A lot of those units will be sold before they're even built and a few will be spec'd out for the lot. When we ordered ours in August of 2018, there was a Dutch Star on a Freightliner available in November and one a Spartan in February of 2019. We really didn't care which chassis as there is very little difference, so we went with the November delivery.

We ordered a 2021 Dutch Star in July. Took delivery October 8 from Steinbring motors. The coach had far fewer defects than the 2018 New Aire we traded in.
The flush on one of the toilets works intermittently and Newmar installed a shelf in front of the rear safe.. Steinbring corrected the safe problem.
Can’t say enough good things about the Stenbring team.
PS We drove 1200 miles to Garfield Minnesota because of their reputation. It was worth it.

Been pretty happy with NIRVC so far, but it has been a month since our "deal/purchase agreement" and don't yet have a VIN. That's next, they say.

+++++

Side note....Our Covid special deal on a BS 3014 was MSRP minus 26%, specials at dealer cost and includes FPU. Fair, I think.

I've been waiting 6 mo. for a slide cover. They told me at the dealer it was made and is sitting in a Dometic warehouse lot with loaded trailers waiting to be off loaded.

There's a lack of manpower because of pandemic issues.

We're in a different world folks.

It is a different era in lots of ways.

Nov.4th is gonna be momentous.....one way or another.

+++++

Back on topic....Why would the sales manager make the statement "Newmar is sold out for 2021". I guess there is some context lacking?

Technically, Newmar is sold out. None of the dealers can call and add any other coaches to their order. There are no other spots/coaches.

NIRVC does have slots for future owners to order their coach for the 2021 model year. When the virus was really going in March many dealers canceled orders but NIRVC toke those slots because they thought it would be a good year to buy a RV and they were right. I bet many of these dealers who canceled wish they could get those build slot back.

Yes this is true every year, the dealers buy up all available production slots typically at the model year release show. They then convert these orders to customers special orders as sold, some get built as dealer inventory.

A/C, refrigerator, furniture, fans - are just some of the items I have personally seen major backlogs at the manufacturers. A/C and refrigeration are also under pressure because of the demand from Pharma for the upcoming storage of the Covid vaccine. The generally smaller size of these storage units and the remote location requirements for the 3rd world directly impacts the RV Supply Chain. But it's even more wide spread - tires, wheels, electrical (home-building boom) are also affected.

This has been the definitive business model for all the top end manufacturers. They have learned from many bitter experiences that the US public perception that they should have the option to buy what they want when they want - or not will in the end, cost the manufacturer. Same model is used by high end vehicles, trucks, and airplanes.

Contact NIRVC Lewsiville. We picked up our new 2021 DS about 2 weeks ago.

As the owner of an RV parts and service company I can attest to the parts shortage. Dometic is way behind the 8 ball. Carefree is months behind on production. Other parts manufacturers are also way behind.

To make the situation worse, Elkhart is having a major revisit of Covid cases. I look for shortages to continue till March or April of 2021. That is what all of our factory contacts are saying.

I can understand everyone's frustration. We are a small parts and service company but some how we ended up with the Nations largest inventory of Dometic Penguin II AC/Heat pumps. That was a week ago. We just sold out completely and have no idea how long our next shipment will be back ordered.

It has been a frustrating year for everyone.
