Many quote the old adage that GCs are true deep cycle, GP31 are considered "starting" battys and marine/RV battys are a compromise but not good at either.
What I've learned is the above is generally valid for FLA (confirmed by different plate designs optimized for their respective use)
When to go to AGM the generalities do not apply (and I have not seen any mfg mention different plate designs).
Look at an AGM GC and AGM GP31 and you will find both CCA and AH specs on many. East Penn (Duracell, and many other branded battys) and Trojan have both confirmed to me that with AGM there is no inherent difference or performance improvement forveither deep cycle or starting between their GCs and GP31s.
