Newmar Transmission Shifter Relocation - Mike Mas
Hello IRV2 Users - I have a great article on relocating your Newmar shifter. As most owners will agree, Newmar’s present location is terribly flawed. This article shows how to relocate the shifter so its both easy to see and use. For the full story please click the link below. Enjoy - Mike

Yes it is. So now I will have to do a carbon fiber knock off. Good discussion about shifting.

LOL Why did I not know that Turbo!
I bought that aluminum palm rest (brake pedal) especially for doing the panel in carbon, the metal finish really complements the carbon. Here's the item only $17.00!

Thinking about my carbon fiber version. Since I will use a mold to make it, I have 3 dimensions to work in. What to you think about building in a incline (say 20 or 30 degrees) to the shifter mount surface above the arm rest, so the shifter can be seen and manipulated easier.

Nicely done both the article and the modification.

I was going to make small kick-up on the shifter to lift the display a bit but the area is very narrow at that point. If I had someone around with a CNC, I would try making a separate mount just for the shifter and surface mount the bracket to the panel.

This is a great idea, but something I would never attempt. There are too many things for me to mess up big time.

Idleup, nice job!
What do you do for a drink holder since you removed it from in front of the trans shifter console?
I noticed the same ergonomic issues on mine. Might do something like that someday.

Nice mod, I agree the forward location is where Newmar should place them all.

Outstanding mod and write up! We agree, the placement of the transmission shift panel in the Newmars is very poor. Why they put a double drink holder in that location as well is puzzling.

Thanks for all the replies guys and nice words - Linda figured this great spot all by herself, using the same rubber insert from the original holder. It's Velcro down. Its also reachable from the other seat as well. The draw still closes when unloaded.

Mine has a flip down drink holder right up to the dashboard. Mounts on the side of the trans shifter. Looks like it would be easy if you wanted to add that to yours. Not sure if mine was factory or aftermarket installed.
