A quick question for input.

The past few nights as we make a 1000 mile trip back home, we have stopped at RV resorts for power and some full hook ups, but since we were in very level spots, for less than 16 hrs, we put the slides out, without dumping the air and dropping the jacks. Is this common, or is there a problem with short stays and not putting jacks down?

We know people do this all the time at Walmart’s, so we figured it is OK for other places too.

I am no expert but do it all the time. I see no problem with doing it.

On single-night stays, we rarely put the jacks down. As long as the site is relatively level and the slide reveals (gaps) are OK, we just run the slides out for the night and retract them in the morning. I know many others who do the same.

On short layover nights doing long trips we normally just put out the full wall slide in the NA3343 and leave the air bags full. With the fast dump speed of the Sani-Con, I can pull in the FWS, dump the tanks and be on my way in less than five minutes versus the drill to put the jacks down. NA3343 is very livable for a short night with just the FWS out.

You'll find the bigger rigs don't even have jacks, just level with the suspension bags. So no, I don't put the jacks down since I don't even have them.

If level spot, I'll dump air and extend slides. No jacks.

The jacks are for your comfort and not required in any way for the chassis. Absolutely no need to dump air. We do the same as Turbopilot when traveling. But from a mechanical perspective, the coach can be up on air for a overnight stay with no wear on anything to worry about.

I didn't know that. Is it stable when leveling with air?

If we are not on FHU, in a Cabela's or Walmart for example, we don't use jacks and just stay on air. The only way I would extend jacks for a quick overnight stay would be if we were going to do some laundry and needed the coach perfectly level. I wouldn't know how to level my model with the air suspension.

Typically only the luxury diesel line with Newmar has air leveling unless you paid to have active air installed yourself.

If site is level enough I will absolutely skip the jacks but dump air. This is just a personal preference as we prefer a lower coach.

My old coach has air suspension and leveling jacks. If I'm staying at a CG only a night or even two on a fairly level spot, I may decide to not do an Auto-level, which dumps air and drops jacks, nor drop my leveling jacks manually. I put out my 30inch slide.

You can feel, as you're walking around the coach, that you're on air instead of the solid feeling of being aired down. You can feel the weight imbalances shifting as you step onto the slideout area versus the main area. I don't know about the newer coaches but that is how mine works.

If I am just staying overnight at a rest stop or Cabellas I only put out the bedroom slide. If I extend all my slides I always extend my jacks and level. I just feel more comfortable with the jacks down if all slides are out.
