Oasis

To all,
Have a Mountain Aire with Oasis furnace problem and the prognosis from ITR after much trouble shooting thinks that the heat exchanger is leaking, which is allowing city water into the heating system thereby creating the over flow-tank to over flow non stop. Any way, the consensus is to replace the distribution module which contains the heat exchange and which is very expensive. Has anyone had a similar problem and if so where did you buy the module. Newmar wants $4800 for the unit alone. Please post any and all info as quickly as possible. Thanks in advance for any info.

Numerous tech do that repair. Check around and get some other estimates. If doing it at Newmar factory there are others in Elkhart who can do that repair.

Wait a minute... I've been following this thread and I'm confused!! (I just went through the joy of a Hot Water Mixing valve replacement) If the heat exchanger is leaking why do you want to replace the distribution module?? I am assuming you are referring to the DM-12 distribution module which contains the heat exchanger, 3 pumps and all the interconnecting plumbing... Why not order a heat exchanger and replace it?? And have you priced the parts from ITR as opposed to Newmar?? I was impressed with the Oasis System when, at the Hoots II Randy explained that with the Oasis System, ANY single component can be replaced... Really interested in your feedback... And if you want to hear what it took to replace the mixing valve, would be glad to share!!

Thanks so much for the info. We have been in touch with ITR and they felt that to replace the heat exchanger the labor cost would almost pay for a new distribution module. First rodeo with the Oasis system so am doing my homework and trying to get the best bang for my buck. Thanks for the input and would appreciate any other thoughts.

To replace the Hot Water Mixing Valve required 8 hours of labor (8 Hrs. X $125.00Hr. = $1,000.00 in labor + parts)! All of the upper plastic connections required replacement due to embrittlement from heating. All of the rubber hoses had to be replaced as they were "baked" onto the pump connections. To replace the mixing valve the primary input hoses were pinched off and the two pumps on the right side of the module and their associated brass connections and hoses had to be removed. I also had the brass fittings and the temp sensor replaced. That should give you some feel for the cost... Did ITR give you a quote for just the heat transfer assembly?? With that in hand and talking with a good RV technician should give you some sense as to which path to choose... Any chance a Tech will give you a flat rate to replace the heat exchanger versus the Module??

Thanks for the insight. What is obvious is that there is no way that this is going to be an inexpensive walk in the park. I am fortunate to have purchased an extended warranty and it looks as though the heat exchanger is covered. Not sure if the control box, distribution module, will be covered so that will dictate the route that I will pursue. I really appreciate your input and will let you know the outcome. If in the interim you have any other thoughts. please forward.

Best regrads
