oil filter wrench

I have a DS on a Spartan chassis with the 450 ISL9. That oil filter is hidden way up there with little room to grab ahold to loosen. What is your preferred wrench to be able to grab it from the bottom and break it free when it is pretty damn tight?

oil filter wrench

I use a strap wrench that uses a 1/2 inch drive ratchet with an extension.

Please forgive me I can’t remember where I bought it 30 years ago.

Just my $.02. Either filter wrench should work in your chassis. I take long wire ties to hold the wire loom that is there, out of the way to give myself a little more room. To be safe, take your new filter with you to a heavy duty truck outlet, and make sure what ever wrench you like fits the diameter of your filter and will fit up into that tight spot. I use a a half inch strap wrench with a long 1/2 inch ratchet extension. I slide that up as high as I can. I slightly loosen the filter and punch a hole in the filter to drain it. If you can hire Gumby for the day, it will help to reinstall the new filter, drain the crankcase and reach all the grease fittings.LOL
