Onan 8K diesel generator
My generator is stopping after 10 minutes. The light flashes one time indicating it was over temperature. I checked the fluid, it was OK but on the low side. I filled and tried again after it cooled and got the same result. 6 mo old coach with 18 hours on generator. Calling Cummings on Monday, any ideas I can try this weekend?

Check to see if any of the coolant hoses are kinked, reducing flow. Check air intake to see if it's partially blocked.
To get thru the weekend, you could try keeping the hood open and directing a fan on it to promote air circulation.
Are you in an area with high temperatures? - Paul

Thanks for the tip, I will check the hoses. We are in western NY so high temps aren’t a problem anymore. Coach is in storage so plan as to run weekly to keep the batteries up.

I have a 7500 diesel with 750 hours. All of them from previous owner. Only time I use ours is to "exercise" it monthly. A couple of months ago I went to exercise and it kept shutting off after 3-4 mins of running. Would start right up. Same thing over and over. I checked for stored trouble codes, and I believe the code stored was for coolant temperature sensor or something similar. Found it very strange to just start doing this after 6 years of ownership. I came here and asked the forum if anybody had a magic trick to fix this as I didn't want to just leave it not working correctly, and didn't want to pull the whole thing out for a $20 part. A guy in the aviation industry told me to try and disconnect the positive and negative cables from the generator and wire brush the terminals as most likely there was some sort of corrosion on them (there was some which I already knew). I did as he said and hooked everything back up. I held the start button down for 60 seconds, hopefully clearing any codes stored, then started the generator, and it has run fine ever since. No cutting off at all, with a load on it or not. You might try this.

I will, would like it working before we head south. Still under warranty, if all else fails I can have them look at it at the Tampa rally
