Onan generator no start

02 KS diesel pusher went out to start to today and the MH started right up. Then I tried to start the generater and nothing, no clicking are grinding. The switch just keeps blinking while it is pressed down. I need to get this figured out because I have to have concenter running for my 02. Everything else seems fine. Thanks

Try pressing the other side of the switch.

Try holding the boost switch, while starting the generator.

If it has been quite awhile since you ran it last you might need to prime the fuel line by holding the bottom of the start switch down for a full minute.

Fuel

Do you need a certain amount of fuel in the tank before the GEN will start?

Is the generator gas or diesel or LP? What model? When was the last time you ran it?

Does it start off the chassis or house battery(s)?

I'd check voltage of which ever battery it starts from and fuel levels as starters.

Diesel Onan

Fuel level is almost 3/4 tank I don’t which batteries it starts off of. It has been hook up to AC. The motor cranked right over and I held the boost down and still didn’t get thing out of it

If the solenoid that connects the chassis and battery together is not working, they do fail, it's no help. I'd guess that the generator starts off the house battery. So I'd be checking the voltage of the house batteries.

Never worked on that Onan model. When you press the Stop side of the switch do you hear any sound? That should start priming the generator. I'd really do this from the On/Off switch mounted on the generator itself, not from inside the RV. You would have to remove the outer generator cover to access it. If there's no sound at all, I'd suspect the fuel pump is bad. That can be better tested by pulling the fuel line off the carb and see if there's a solid flow of fuel out of the fuel line when you run the priming process. Best if you try to catch the fuel in a bottle to discard.

My generator starts from the house batteries so I have to be sure my battery disconnect is turned on. Do you have one and is it on?

When cold, to start via the switch in the coach I have to press and hold the start button for 10-20 seconds (the light flashes) while the glow plug preheats the combustion chamber and then it starts.

Using the button on the generator bypasses the warmup sequence.

In warm weather, no preheat step.

The glow plug is covered in the manual.

Makes sense, never had a diesel generator, just my diesel RAM 3500 and a Ford F250 diesel.

Question, when being serviced removed from an RV how would a tech run the preheat sequence, if it were cold?

OP says no sounds at all. Could also be the start solenoid is bad. That would prevent anything from getting power I believe. On mine the fuel pump is on the load side of the solenoid.
