If its a DP its your chassis engine batteries, if its a gas coach would be your house batteries.
Generator information.

On my Dutch Star the chassis batteries start the gen set.

As stated, the chassis batteries "run" the generator, however you can start the generator if you use the "Aux" switch which connects in the house batteries and will, hopefully, charge the chassis batteries enough to continue running on the chassis battery.
I recently had the problem of having dead chassis batteries and could start the generator by using the "Aux" switch. However, when I would let up on the Aux switch the generator would stop running after a minute or so. That was because the chassis batteries were so dead that they would not take a charge from the generator enough to continue running when the house batteries were disconnected.
Problem solved... replaced two chassis batteries!

That answer is painted with a "to broad" brush.
That may? be true of Newmars, however the Onan in my DP starts with/from the house batteries.

As 007 said this is a Newmar forum. Other manufactures design units differently. Also we should not care about Safari's design.

Thanks, I didn't know that on all Newmar DPs the gensets started with the chassis battery, (gassers with the house).

I didn't know that Newmar owners shouldn't, (don't?), care about learning about other brands.
I'd like to think that that is your opinion, (and not the opinion of ALL Newmar forum members).
If this forum is exclusively for Newmar owners, I apologize for butting in.
BTW, there is no iRV2 forum exclusively for Safari owners, (but I do feel welcome on most other iRV2 forums).

Mel, there was nothing wrong with your post and your information. It's always good to know differences between brands of motorhomes.
I hope the responses were just not worded as the authors meant and only sounded unintentionally harsh...
You are always welcome to post here, and thank you for the information.
