Ordered a Canyon Star - delivery is scheduled for May
Newmar Factory is very busy these days, The chassis for the 2018 Canyon Star 3911 is, according to the dealership I purchased from, all spoken for on the 2018 production schedule. He claims mine was the last one available for 2018 (my guess is for this deanships allocation). The dealership claims they sell 60% of all the coaches Newmar produces.
I was considering taking delivery at the factory ( a $4500 option). My wife and I were informed by Newmar that delivery at the factory adds 3-5 weeks delivery time and we would be expected to be on sight at Newmar for about 5 days during the time of acceptance.
I will call back for clarification on exactly what we will be doing for a week at the Factory. No complaints I could hang out at the factory and keep myself busy.
This strategy might be useful to iron out any warranty issues prior to launching on a maiden voyage.
Has anyone taken advantage of this factory delivery? Do you feel it is money/time well spent?
Thanks,
Joe

A couple of threads for factory delivery in the NEWMAR CORP Sticky, one by DEEK of HOOT's fame and a new one just added.
It covers all operation of your coach until you have complete knowledge of same.
Your coach will have a full PDI done before you arrive than if anything else not to your liking that will be corrected.
Congrats on your up coming Newmar.

Congrats on your new Canyon Star, you are going to love it. We picked up at our dealership and they did a great PDI, and delivery.

Welcome to the Canyon Star family.
If you can do it - I suggest the factory delivery........
Our CS was on the dealer lot when we bought it - but would have done FPU if we ordered.
There has to be a FPU thread on iRV2 - check it out and you be the judge.
Good luck and again - welcome.

FDU Sounds like a good option
After reading the Stick noted by 007 I realise that my questions about the value of the FDU are not unique.
Understanding the pressure on the manufacturer to hit a price point and schedule, units will make it through less than perfect. I understand that final assembly is the confluence of many manufactures products that Newmar can verify only on an exception or limited audit process.
Being new to RV ownership I would like a factory trained person to take me through the coach and any manufacturing issues be dealt with headon.
Thank you for all of your input.

Yes, exactly. We aren't new to RVing (this is our 5th RV and 3rd MH) but we really enjoyed FPU. Having every single little issue taken care of right away was so refreshing. I only wished that we would have paid closer attention and tried out every little thing. We had two issues that could have been fixed at FPU that we missed noticing. It was also really nice to have Newmar install a couple things for us that we brought. They have a lot of pride in their work.

Congratulations! Ours is supposed to come off the line May 3rd. But we're not doing FPU. I'm not retiring until June 1st, so we're going to take delivery at the dealer just before I retire.

For all you new owners of a CS here is a Owners Guide and in QT's # 3 the CANYON STAR Section will find MOD's by owners and problem solving also.
This may help to pass the waiting time, congrats on upcoming adventure.

Congrats on the new Canyon Star, if ours is any indication you made a fantastic choice. We did our PDI at our dealer (only 40 miles away) and had a fantastic experience. Really well made product.
