Last night got down to 28F and I forgot to turn the Oasis diesel burner on. It was 32 out when I went to bed.
Thermostat was set at 71 front 72 rear, when I got up at 6:30 the front was 65 and the rear was 70. Air coming out of the registers felt luke warm on the hand. Not to bad for just using the electric elements.
When I flipped the burner switch on it got real warm, real fast.
With our Fleetwood you never noticed the heat loss from the windshield as much, because the whole coach would loose any heat very fast. In this Newmar the rear heaters hardly turn on, because of the insulation difference. But you do feel the windshield, when your up front.
I'm going to experiment with one of our old space heaters on the steering wheel table. Just to see if I can not us any diesel fuel for heat, and I have nothing better to do in my free time.
Still no regrets on the purchase.

Stopped at a Newmar dealer in Grand Rapids, Michigan where we are now visiting and they had a 2013 Dutch Star 4347 which we toured this afternoon. The sales rep said that the 43 is only two feet longer than the 40 -- because the 40 overall is 40' 9" and the 43 overall is 42' 9". I did not realize that before.
We ordered the 4018 and are very happy with our decision, but I am just wondering what you see as the differences between the two -- what is the rough price difference; are there different tire sizes; is the mid ship bath different; are there any other differences of note that you are aware of?
We have followed all of your posts since you were at the factory and we are glad you have had such good service thus far with your 43. You have to be really happy. It is stunning!
If you still have the problems with the convection / microwave, you really have to get Newmar to replace it. They will definitely do that. Skmwalden a similar problem to you and he got Newmar to replace it for him without problems.

Both mid baths were pretty much the same.
All the Dutch Stars run the same tire size.
Where you really see the 2 foot difference is in the basement storage. If you don't carry much no big deal. But if your like me and carry your normal camping stuff plus all your work tools, it fills up fast.
We'll get back up to Newmar soon. Work has me pinned down for now. I have all ready talked with Newmar.
The difference between the 47 or 18 floor plan was, IIRC, about a foot to 18 inches. It was where you wanted that foot: the kitchen or the rear bathroom. Both "living room sizes" where nearly the same.

Same with ours. In 2002 they had an optional roof insulation package. Cost was only about $100 at the time. Glad we had it added as it does make a difference in noise too. I think it's standard on the DSDP's now.

I have been lucky had winter insulation package on all my Newmars and as MR D said all Newmars are now well insulated.

When we ordered our '13 Dutch Star 4018, I couldn't figure out whether or not to add the fiberglass roof. I asked several people at the factory about it and for their recommendations. I frankly could get no response out of any of them justifying the additional cost -- which I would have gladly paid if it was clear from our discussion that the fiberglass roof would add any noticeable difference. The best I got was that all the higher end coaches have fiberglass roofs but that the Bright TEK roof is quieter, provides the same degree of insulation over the insulation fill put into the roof and has been very reliable in terms of whole roof integrity.
As I understand it, all Newmar coaches, beginning with Ventana and extending to King Aire, now come with R-19 in the roof and, as PDR John says, are definitely quiet and tight.

I have the fiberglass roof on my 2013 4318 DSDP. Bought it off the showroom floor so didn't even realize there was a roof option. Rained most of the night here in Durant, OK at the KOA and could only hear it thru the vent covers. I was not very happy with the slide awnings with the flapping in the wind! I ended up pulling in both the bedroom slide and later the full slide because of the flapping. They were both really bad. I've suspected they are not tensioned properly and now I'm sure they are not.

When we ordered our 2012 DSDP we included the fiberglass roof. Our reasoning, the fiberglass roof is a single piece including the radius corners, eliminating the seams required by using the BriteTek. IMHO anytime a seam can be eliminated it equates to lower possibility of a water leak. Fiberglass more so than BriteTek will be more resistant to tree limbs scratching or ripping the roof. I have not noticed the fiberglass roof to be noisy.
X2 on the slide awning flapping. Not sure how much more the slide awnings can be tensioned. I have noticed when walking around camp grounds on windy days that most awnings flap-- please let us know if you get yours tight enough to stop the flapping.

Wow! When I review these comments, I wonder if we shouldn't re-think the fiberglass roof option! There is still time to add it if we want.
Retail cost for fiberglass roof option is $1,100 plus change. Dealer will, I believe, discount that by about 25%.
What advice do you give us about this, Forum-mates? Get the fiberglass roof option or stay with Bright-Tek?

They're both good, but fiberglass doesn't tear. That's why I sprung for it.

We opted for the fiberglass roof because the coin flip said to.
Can't say if it was better or not, but there is fewer seams.
