2019 DS 4369 and have gone into Empire Truck in Pensacola for my 4 year service. I have used them before and was pleased. This time they found a small leak in the oil pan, and I had a check engine light which they said was a power distribution module that needed replacing. I told them that I had the PDM recall done 2 years ago and was told this was a different PDM. I received an estimate for approval of $6990.00. Needless to say I was a little shocked. What do you think?

I think they have a lease payment coming due and you're the solution.

Think I'd go somewhere else.

I would take a ride to Gaffney.
It’s a days ride from Pensacola. I did it from Miramar on March 7th.
I just had the 5 yr complete service, added a full alignment, and tranny change.
Added the one yrs oil change, filters, and lube, added the air cleaner.
They did one warranty check on my tag axle air system. Which was ok.
When they did the alignment, my tag axle was off the charts, they were glad I asked for it.
It was $3009 - total with tax and the FCC discount. They did all in one day.
I did the 5 yr service since I already put 42,000 miles on my 3 yr old Horizon.
Spent the night before and after in their free camp sites in back.
They have 50 amps, dump and water fill.

PS, I doubt it’s the PDM

I would get another quote. I used empire before and felt their coast was high.

If it was running fine and is still running fine, I would want to know the specific function of whatever that other PDM is and what issue it is causing. I'd contact Cummins directly to get their inputs on that specific PDM. For that much cost I'd also be getting a 2nd test and quote.

Electronics are always tricky, but why would they have even been looking into that PDM?

Make an appointment with Freightliner in Gaffney, SC.

Your coach doesn't have 2 PDM's. Maybe they were trying to sell you an engine control module (ECM)?

Sad thing is that this type of scenario will work on some customers. The suggestions given here I believe are spot on.

Your Best Bet is to call 1-800 FTL-Help Gaffeny ! They will take care of you The Are The Best to go Plus labor is Less There has Been 3 updates on PDM all are FREE Even the replacement

I'm the OPer. I called Freightliner to ask about the PDM recall and was told that the recalls had expired but if it was less than 1 year there would be no charge. Mine is over a year old so I have to pay. I did go back to Empire Truck and questioned the charges and got them down $1400.00 but still find this high.

What diagnostic code was set when the check engine light was on?
What was the recall for? replacement of the ECU? or reflash?

They dropped the estimate from $6,990 to $1,400?

I would tell them to pound sand and never deal with them again. They are unethical.

I went to their sister facility in Mississippi. Initial estimate was high. Spoke to a second estimator and the price worked. These guys are a Freightliner Oasis certified group and their techs are top notch. I assume the are close to you so if you are pleased with the price I would recommend them. I am down the road from you in Destin and plan on using them for my next oil change including my generator maintenance.

Also as a Freightliner certified group I know first hand they can get parts fast, real fast.
