Paint

What type of paint was used to paint a 06 Dutch Star?

I have the codes from Sherman Williams, but is it a base coat/clear coat?

Yes, that's so you can't feel the paint strips. Newmar paints it and then wet sands it and polishs it out. Just had my bottom doors repaired and watched them do a new Essex. The don't use Sherman Williams anymore.

It's definitely base coat/clear coat. My 2006 Dutch Star had all the "caps & wraps" all the way around the whole roof, peeling off clear coat in big sections. Duncan RV Repair in Elkhart, IN repainted it with Dupont paint and it looks great again. Apparently it's a common problem with the factory paint not having enough UV protection in the clear coat. They matched the color perfectly. You can call Vinny, Duncan's body shop manager, and get some first hand info. 888-738-6226

The High-line (Aire and Essex) coaches are painted as a k posts. Standard line (Star line) coaches are not given the same paint process. On Star coaches one will feel the border between colors.

Dewey, if you put your coach build number in the coach parts link in Quick Tips you may get your paint colors.
The number will be similar to mine 700963 add CS and hit GO.
Your coach number will come up with Vin# and model of your coach click on that link and your info will come up.
Here is my coach

Just because the paint at the factory isn't Sherwin Williams and paint code reflects Sherwin Williams. you can still use Sherwin Williams/Martin Senour. I know cause I use Martin Senour paints everyday. I have painted the front end of my coach and one rear door. Base coat Clear coat system. Go to any napa store they will help you out. One might have to becareful cause you can use graphics and clear coat over them also. On a side note. NAPA can also cross reference other brands such as Duopnt, PPG, etc.
