Paint code
Would someone know the paint code for a 1998 Dutch Star? Sticker lists Sherwin Williams New 100, but local paint shop cannot cross match. Called Newmar customer service and they do not have the code for this year.
Color is taupe and is used on the baggage doors and lower portion of front and rear.
Thanks for any assistance.
David

One of my colors was obsolete due to an ingredient becoming unavailable. I took them a sample (my diesel fill pipe door) and they matched it to about 99% .... very slightly off with the depth of metallic. Bring them a sample ... they are good at matching.

I needed to match color for a minor repair on my 04' DSDP. First the color code may not help much because of sun fading. I removed the fuel filler door (had the correct color paint) and took it to the body repair supply shop. They color matched it perfectly! If you can find a small body part that you can easily remove and take it to have it color matched.

Several years back, I took a sample from a Wave Runner to a large NAPA store that had a good automotive paint department. I only needed a small amount for touch up. The NAPA store matched the sample perfectly. I could not detect any difference in color from the original and the paint mixed by the NAPA store.

Generally you need to bring to the paint supply store a panel that is large enough for the match camera to get a good picture. The gas door is perfect.
Is there your color codes listed somewhere in the RV? I found mine in a kitchen cabinet affixed to a door.

Aren’t the original factory paint colors encoded in the VIN?

I have purchased color matched spray cans from our local auto paint supply shop. This should be a perfect or at least a very close match.
Hope to get to spray the door this weekend.
Thanks for the replies.

That's where my Sherwin codes are located. However, Sherwin was no longer able to mix one of the codes and did not have an exact cross reference. Apparently, in older paints, there is sometimes an ingredient that can not be sold/used. They did a very close match from a sample and provided the substitute ingredient list.

No, colors are not coded in the VIN...
My RV has about 6 diff colors in it's swirly scheme.
If you have access to OEM data, then for many vehicles, the VIN is associated in a corporate database to the vehicle sales codes, primary color being one of those attributes.
The rest of colors are typically in a technical bulletin with a graphical pictorial with color keys connected by arrows to the area of color. This is how Newmar does it.
For owners, the easiest place is to find where the OEM hid the document in the vehicle. Like in a kitchen cabinet or in the Owner's Kit.
