Peak Blue DEF Platinum - Anyone running it?
Curious if anyone has been using the new Platinum DEF. Their marketing seems to make sense. However, I saw on a GM diesel forum that it is not recommended for the Duramax system.
Thanks.

Reason for NOT using in Duramax ???
32-33% synthetic urea
67-68% distilled water
?? proprietary additive
Other than an additive to reduce deposits same ole DEF

I seriously doubt there is anything "platinum" about it other than cost. DEF is just 32.5% Urea and 67.5% deionized water. Anything else in the mix could cause problems with the sensors.

It was a long post, and I did not read the entire thing. Not sure if the guy had any expertise or not. You know how some people on discussion boards act like they know everything.

I've been buying the blue jug of "Tech" DEF at Walmart for past 7 years. Personally, I think DEF is DEF and the rest is all hype.
I do carry a refractometer (Amazon) and check the DEF when I think a jug has been opened.

Bought one on recommendation (maybe yours) from this site some time ago for my truck and the Ventana. Cheap insurance for sure.

When I have seen it for sale, it had dust on it as it had been sitting on the shelf for so long ! Because it’s so expensive, looks like people avoid it like the plague. I only buy and use fresh DEF, so for that reason I wouldn’t use it. If I could be certain it was fresh I might try it if the cheaper DEF was all sold out.

No idea, but there's been at least a few studies that regular old DEF can leave deposits causing NOx and NH3 slip, exhaust flow maldistribution, increased engine backpressure, and corrosion of aftertreatment components. Apparently the right additives can reduce this as much as 89%. Sounds intriguing. https://www.sae.org/publications/tec.../2019-01-0313/

Totally agree with this observation. I have been running the blue jug from Wal Mart for 8 years. Purchased a jug earlier this week, sorry to see it go to $8.50 a jug. Must have got caught up in that “Transitory” inflation.

I buy my def at the pump at truck stops. That's the best way to ensure you have fresh def.

I have been filling the DEF tank at the truck stop. I always start thinking about DEF when I hit 2 bars. That equates to +\- 7 gallons. When returning home I always top off diesel and DEF 40 miles from home. That way both are full when I park it at our lot.

I emailed both Freightliner and Cummins. Responses below.
FL: FCCC engineering has not done any testing of the new peak product. Since the SCR is Cummins component you may want to run this by them before using it.
Cummins: The urea content of DEF solution must be 32.5 percent ± 0.7 percent by weight. It must meet the International Standard ISO 22241-1 for diesel engines. There is no acceptable substitute. For engines using SCR operating in the United States and Canada, DEF certified by the American Petroleum Institute (API) is recommended for use. A symbol on the container or dispensing system will indicate certification
