Photo Was Used

I received an email newsletter from another Forum and the topic was Boondocking. To my surprise a photo of our rig was used from Ken's Lake outside of Moab a few years ago. I have posted that photo here a few times. I don't have a problem with it's use, just a little surprised.

I believe, once you post publicly & unless you have your photo copyrighted, it's fair game for use elsewhere. That's why you always see the Photostock or Getty Images logo watermarked on any of their photos out on the internet. Can't repost their images without paying for them.

There's this part of our ToS that covers this:
Quote:
... By posting content on the Websites, you also grant, and warrant that you have the authority to grant, the Company a limited license to display, reproduce, modify, and use any text, image, video, music, or any other content that you post on the Websites.
The current header photo was from one our members, but I did ask permission to post it. Unfortunately there's no place on the header to acknowledge origin.

All that said, it is a professional courtesy to include a photo credit line, even when you use a public domain photo.

Unless doityourselfrv is part of the irv2 parent company, then that tos does not apply. I don't see any statement in there to sell, lease or etc... to a 3rd party.

That's really on the photo owner. It should be done before posting on the www to begin with. Some just don't realize it.

Same thing happened with a picture I posted here showing our coach in about 2 1/2 feet of snow while we were on a snow ski trip. RVLife.com showed the picture with a caption "Protect Your RV Battery in Winter Storage". Winter storage heck, we were camping! I had to pass my granddaughter out through a window so she could shovel snow/ice away from the outside of the door so poor old Nana and Pop Pop could get out the door!!!

That pile of snow behind the is our Honda CRV

There are some valid points here and I've forwarded this on to the editors of these publications. They are all part of the RV Life ecosphere but still... credit where credit belongs...
