Picking up new rig on Monday 5/23 at Newmar

I'm taking delivery of a 2022 Baystar 3124 at the Newmar factory on Monday 5/23. One week at the factory and then headed to Liquid Springs for 4 corners suspension upgrade.

This is my first factory delivery.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Dave

On the walk through PDI , video tape everything.

During your week at the factory , read through every manual and document related to the coach , its systems and appliances . If you spot something you don't have a document for , ask for it.

One big thing I would do is run all the slides in and out several times. Make sure the "picture frame" is as perfect as they can get it and ensure they are sealed well when all the way out. Drive the coach over some rougher roads and check to see if the slides stay "good" from the picture frame standpoint, as they can and do shift when driving. Run them out and back in if they move to ensure thay are good.

Also, I would have them check and retorque the slide motor bolts...

Beyond that, be sure to check each and every system from the washer and dryer (if equipped) to the AC's, heat pumps, generator, inverter, etc.

We picked our Canyon Star up in November.

Like everyone else said, test everything. You're going to be starting early and giving a lot of information. A LOT of INFORMATION. It's very overwhelming. Be prepared to be mentally exhausted by the end of each day. If you finish early, still plan on staying there. I wish we had stayed one extra night instead of leaving when we were done. We started our next leg of the trip so very very tired. Most of all soak it all in, enjoy this part of the journey!

Make sure you get the pads that go under the slideout rollers when in. They will help in REDUCING the damage of the floor from the rollers bouncing when driving.

Check that the spacing (reveal) is even on the sides and bottom slideout openings when closed--AFTER driving on some rough roads. Also the front and rear reveal of the slideout is the same front and rear edges. Our 2020 3226BS had a 1/2" space on the front and less than 1/8" on the rear of the curbside front slideout. And on the street side, the bottom rear of the slideout was rubbing on the frame, but the front had about 3/8" space.

Checking the torque on the slideout motor bolts may be a good thing--but the really important thing is the application of a thread locker. Moving the bolt will destroy the lock. It is VERY important to somehow confirm that a thread locker was used, and about the only way is to remove a bolt and inspect it. Then reapply the thread locker with correct torque. I doubt Newmar will do that!

Absolutely DEMAND, they check the torque on the slide motor bolts!!!!! Newmar has a problem and they REFUSE to acknowledge it!

These are all great points everyone has posted. I would also highly recommend watching y-tube videos by Angie from NIRVC. She does the best at going over almost every system and feature on every model of coach they sell. I learned more from her than you will ever learn from your delivery rep.

It’s the little things that seem to drive the new coach owners crazy. Get them to acknowledge the very small imperfections and fix them before you leave. Enjoy.

Excellent choice! We picked up our 2021 Bay Star 3124 at the factory last July, then had the LS four corner upgrade done - I think you will be very happy.

As everyone has stated, the days will be overwhelming - but I can't say enough about the Newmar Tech's - they will do whatever it takes to make things right. Spend the evenings hooking, unhooking, testing, checking every device, cabinet, slide, etc and then review with the tech in the morning. Also, they will drive the rig to and from the camp spot, but do all of the hookups and prep yourself, with them there, just to familiarize and test. Also in the evening, unhook and take the rig on a test drive - we took ours to the local high school and practiced and did walk-arounds.

The big checklist item for us was paint - although the Newmar pre-delivery checks were good, we still found several issues, which they immediately stepped up to.

One frustrating thing to have them look at is the hood release - ours takes two people (one inside / one outside) to get the release to work; also I found (a couple months later) that the hood bracket that stops the hood on closure (made of fiberglass) was broken, probably from having to slam the hood to get it to close properly. Also check your entry door and screen door on your test drive - ours rattled badly.

I also support the purchase (or make your own) of the mats to go under the slide rollers when closing - stops the marring and gouging of the floor. There is a parts store connected to the Newmar service area where you can buy "stuff" - a bit over priced but convenient. I would also "request" a small sample of your wallpaper, wood-filler stick, and carpet to have around in case you need to make repairs

I was very pleased with the factory pickup process - having Newmar take two weeks to do a pre-delivery inspection and fix/repair was a much better experience than just having the rig "pass trough" a dealer -and the four day face-to-face with the Newmar techs was excellent, especially for first time owners like myself.

Best of luck! Enjoy your rig and your week!

Prepare yourself for a serious case of "garage envy!" The facility itself at Newmar is extremely impressive, and spotlessly clean. Use this to your advantage. When they pull your coach out of the service bay to put it in the campground overnight, do a quick inspection of the floor under the coach.Any leaks will show up as though they have a spotlight on them. Now's the time to get 'em fixed!

Congratulations on the new coach. Have a great time learning it and driving it home!

Day 1 complete. This is our third motorhome in three years. My second Newmar and so I am very familiar with the systems on the Baystar. We owned a 2020 Baystar Sport previously. I gotta tell you, I had to look very hard to find any issues. Very small scraping of the wood on one of the drawer faces in the kitchen. I pointed it out to our tech and within about 5 minutes another gentlemen came in, removed the drawer, and within an hour came back with it repaired. Honestly, I was just going to dab it with a black marker and you never know the difference. The Newmar facilities are first class! Super clean! Tommorow we will do our test drive but when the tech drove the rig out of the service garage, it sure did seem that this new Ford chassis was much much better than the V10 chassis. I noticed it instantly. I hope I feel the same way tommorow after driving it. Regardless, we are scheduled for Liquid Springs four corner next week.

Its only one day...but I am impressed.

And the wife and I really like this town of Nappanee.

While you are in town, check out Main Street Roasters at the corner of the main intersection. They are the best!

Enjoy the Factory Pickup Delivery process! We did on out 2020 Canyon Star, & to my way of thinking, worth every penny! So few issues, & not having to run to a Dealer, drop off, etc, to get adjustments/repairs done. We've had three small issues in 2 1/2 years! But do go over your new coach with a fine tooth comb.

RE: Liquid Spring; Had it installed in December, have put over 2,000 miles on it since! Liquid Spring suspension is absolutely the BEST available for a Gas chassis coach! "Comfort" mode rides like an SUV, "Sport" mode handles like a big sports car!
I suggest you have them work with you after installation, on the best "setting" on which to put down levelers! Mine sometime "creep" down and put the steps in a bind. This is caused by the molecular content of the fluid, creating, "expansion/contraction", based on temperature.

Good Luck, Enjoy Factory Pickup, & Enjoy the "Liquid Spring" suspension!
Make many "RV Memories"!
