Pilot Flying J RV card

This is one of the best things I have found for Diesel. On a recent trip to TN I basically traveled from Flying J to Flying. Being 65' in length truck stops are my best choice. Some Flying J's also have dump stations!

Hope someone finds this useful.

I applied for one, a week or so ago, but the site said it could take 30 days for them to respond. That's pretty slow in today's world. I want to use it the first week of August, but it might not make it in time...

I've been using mine for almost a year and have had very few times when I couldn't get to a Pilot/Flying J to get my .08 discount for diesel.

Do you guys go to the RV lane or truck lanes? Can you pay at the pump in the truck lanes?

Just be mindful that Flying J isn't always the best price for diesel at many interstate exits. I had the card about 3 or 4 versions ago, have since let it lapse since I found diesel cheaper at other stations. I did use it for LP and discount dumping stations, even stayed overnight at one Flying J, but about got asphyxiated when the RV next to me started their generator and the exhaust was pointed right at my open window.

I use the truck lanes. Hiflow pumps that will spill out when it clicks off. You do pay at the pump. It works well for me. I'm usually trying to get to an off-road event and home as quick as possible. For me, it's the convenience and easy in and out pulling the Jeep on a 20' trailer.

I've been using mine for almost 8 years now -- for both gas and diesel. I've only used the regular pumps or RV pumps so far.

Most of the time I'm able to just stick my card in the pump -- and that's it. It's a discount card and credit card at the same time. Stick it in, enter your PIN, and the pump price per gallon immediately changes to show the discounted rate.

But some Flying J stations are more run-down or over-worked than others. And many times I have to go into the office as the card didn't work at the pump (no other card worked at the pump either).

While out on the road, I've found that Flying-J with the discount is pretty much the very cheapest -- with very few other stations beating their discounted price.

And although the cards are also good at Pilot stations, Pilot's prices are often higher than Fly-J.

But here in San Diego, the only Pilot station we have is most definitely one of the more expensive ones -- same pump price as Chevron for example. And even with the discount, they're still more expensive than several name and no-name truck stop stations within a block. Go figure.

So at home, I fill up at my local Golden State Fuels -- for sometimes 30 cents per gallon cheaper. And fortunately, my Golden State Fuels has a separate diesel island and plenty of room for the RV. Heck, even double-trailer dump trucks use this station.

We've traveled over 1,000 miles in the past couple of weeks. Not once have we filled up at a major truck stop. The price differential between the major stops and independent stations with truck pumps has consistently been between 20-30 cents per gallon throughout TX, NM and CO. We use the Trucker Path app on my Android phone to identify stations, both majors and independents, with truck pumps. Not only are the independents almost always cheaper, there is usually no wait time getting to a pump to refuel.

We have a Flying J/Good Sam card and hardly ever use it. The 8 cents per gallon doesn't even out the difference in price and our Sam's Club MasterCard gives us 5% back on all fuel purchases. With diesel running around $3/gal, 5% back is 15 cents/gallon--a much better deal than 8 cents.

Agree w others...
We used our P-FJ card most of the time w our old gasser but have switched to other locations w our DP.
The discount just didn't make sense when prices were $.30 - $.50 higher than others for diesel.

A better deal may be to apply for and use a PENFED VISA credit card. 5% off all fuel purchases. Allows you to shop for the price of fuel. It does require a small balance to be maintained in a PENFED account. -Paul

Truck lanes. RV is for smaller like Class C. You can also get DEF in the truck lane which is preferred over bottles IMHO.

Yes, PF/J are more expensive due to taxes they incur but Iíll gladly pay $5-10 more in the end (thatís all it comes out to) for convenience, not struggling with tight spaces, and better diesel turnover. Better windshield cleaner stuff and poles etc etc.

They are my preferred stops.

I'm very thrifty but I refuse to hunt for the best deals on diesel. I also have been using the Flying J/Pilot card for years. For me it is all about the convenience as they are always located near the highway, knowing what to expect at every location, and most important to me is paying at the pump.

We rarely buy diesel from the big 4 truck stations with our 41' DP. Even gas buddy not much help. We just keep our eye out for price then look for enough space for 60' with toad. Saved us hundreds $ over last 3 years.

This pretty much sums it up for me too. Have been using this card for about 5 years. The convenience of getting in and out is the main reason. I always use the truck lanes and the truckers have always been friendly.
