Poor Positioning of the Zone 2 Temp Sensor

The past three trips out, I have noticed that because of the way our BBS 3103 was angled, the afternoon sun was constant on the street rear corner / street side of the coach. The temp sensor for zone two is attached underneath the left hand corner of the TV in the bedroom. That area seems to heat up due to the sun and cause the sensor to give an incorrect temp reading. The end result is, the rear A/C runs continuosly from about 1 pm until 8. I have attached a picture of the area from a different BS 3103. I am going to install a small fan to circulate the air in that area, in hopes of correcting the problem. A better solution would be to relocate the Temp Sensor to a better location. Has anyone relocated a temp sensor? How difficult was it. I'm just worried that the A/C unit is working too hard. It never gets a chance to cycle off for about 6 hours. I don't feel like replacing it in two years.

My zone one sensor seems to pickup heat from the sun and side wall. I actually bought three small thermometers and stuck them on the wall above each of the heat pump/ac temp sensors. This showed me the zone one sensor was picking up heat from the sun and or side wall. I removed the sensor and found no issue in the way it was mounted. The hole in the wall was well sealed. To help with the situation I increased the temp on zone one by a degree or two to help compensate for the additional heat from the sun and side wall. The problem is when the sun goes down if it is still hot you have to adjust it back down. Hasn't been a big issue for me yet so I am living with my current work around solution. I also put down the front window shade to help block the sun from the sensor.

I have a 2012 Canyon Star 3856--my bedroom setup looks the same and I have the same problem it seems. Zone 2 wants to run all the time and zone 1 seems to work fine. Maybe a litte fan is the answer.

Hi BPoland,
I left the thermistor in place and disconnected it from the roof top unit. Installed another thermistor in the return air grate (in the ceiling) in the bedroom. Works like a window A/C unit where the thermistor is installed in front of the air intake. The thermistor is so sensitive that I had to wrap it in heat shrink plastic covered with electrical tape! The covering process was a slow learning process. The object was to eliminate the short cycling of the compressor. I didn't eliminate the short cycles, but I did vastly reduce them to a minor irritant.

Newmar has been notified on numerous occasions that sensors are mounted in the wrong places according to Dometic. They have paid dealers to move these in some instances when owners have complained but they will not admit this is a general problem. If you are still in warranty you can negotiate with them via the dealer otherwise you may have to find your own solution as some of the above have done.
