porch light question
This is a longshot, but has anyone tried to, or found a way to disconnect the inside step lights from the porch light circuit? I'm installing a motion light outside and don't want the inside step led's on all night.

I have the same issue. I found that putting a magnet by the jam magnet stops it from turning the lights on when you open the door. I could not figure out the LEDs.

I installed a switch on the dash that cuts the overhead lighting when opening the door when I first got the coach, but the led step lights still come on. Makes it a lot easier to park at night without waiting for the lights to time out every time the door opens. I think I had it hooked to the trimark system on top of the steering column, but it's been a while. This must have a feed off the porch light switch which I will check into when I get time to dig into it. If I can find it, I'll post the solution up here.

Instal a motion sensor for the step light too. An internet, Amazon, auto parts store, and electrical parts search may turn up the part you need.

I really don't want to complicate this with another motion detector. I'm fine with the step lights coming on with the door switch, but not with the porch light. i may have time today to look into it.

Called Newmar and they didn't have a clue as to what the wiring was on this. I took the armrest off and had to follow the light wire a little downstream, but I found the solution. The red/white wire from the switch connects with several other wires in a red wire nut. After some testing, I removed the yellow wire from the bundle and now the step lights don't come on with the porch light, but work as normal with the door switch. If anyone doesn't want the interior step LED's when the porch light is on, it's an easy fix.

Forgot to mention, when removing the yellow wire it must be capped off with a wire nut or tape as it may backfeed and become hot when the door opens. You don't want a bare wire flopping around with the possibility of grounding.

Motion Light fix
My solution was to install a separate for the porch light and a separte light for the step lights. Reason, I wanted to be able to turn off the porch light. My porch light can either be on all the time or motion sensitive. Great for when leaving for the day.

Motion Light fix
On edit, post should read, switch not light. Two switches, one for motion light and one for step lights.

I never did like, or understand, the fact that the interior step lights come on with the outside porch light. Sometimes we would like the outside light on all night, but the glow from the step well lit up the whole interior of the coach. Now they only work off the door switch, which is how I would have designed it to begin with.
