Portable smoker review

I know a lot of you like to smoke food while rving so I thought I would share my experience. I bought a traegor portable grill and had all kinds of problems. I called traegor and they sent me several replacement parts and it would not hold a temperature. I gave up on it after 2 years and bought a portable Pitt Boss. I can't tell you what a difference, it's lighter and it holds the temperature like a rock. Don't buy the portable traegor grill. I hope this helps some of you. Bill

My Pit Boss at the S&B works like a champ. Have a couple chickens on the menu this weekend!

Been using the Green Mountain Grill, Davey Crockett and fine with it. Does great ribs, pulled pork, chickens and brisket.

I have also been happy with the GMG Davy Crockett. It is heavy and takes up considerable room. So we only bring it for special occasions.

We recently bought a Reqtec RT-340 and did a boneless leg of lamb in it last Sunday. Turned out great...still have enough left for sandwiches tonite.

The Reqtec held 250-degree temperature at +/- 2 degrees for three hours on a windy 50-degree day. And, the pellet hopper holds enough for 12-15 hours use at that temp.

Cons are that it is a bit heavy (about 80 pounds) and may be a challenge to get into one of the cargo bays in the MADP. The tape measure says that it “should” fit, but it will be close...or not; we’ll see.

We use the GMG Davey Crockett. A bit heavy, but everything is rock solid. It's also set up to work directly from 12v.

I do all my smoking before I leave. Vacuum seal and then freeze. When we want bbg, just thaw, drop (still sealed) into a pot of boiling water for a few minutes, slice, and serve. Tastes just like it came off the smoker.

I carry a BGE Mini-max and a Blackstone 2 burner griddle for cooking on the road.

I have the Pit Boss table top model. after my second time using it I a very pleased with it. My traegor was nothing but a pain in the A--. It will fit in the small slide out tray on my DS and it weighs almost 20 lbs. less than my other one. Bill

I also have the GMG Davy Crockett and like the WIFI and all the profiles you can make. My little camp table didn't last long but I bought the table below and it is sturdy. To store it I lay the table flat on my basement cargo tray and put the grill on top of it.

I am thinking about one of these, but I am worried that it will not fit in a bay underneath the coach. Has anyone actually put one of these smokers in a storage bay and did it fit (either with or without a slide-out tray)?

Give me a few days and I’ll know whether it fits in our bay. The weather hasn’t been conducive to outdoor stuff for the past couple of weeks, but next week is supposed to be nice.

I like the quality of the Reqtec and am hoping it will snuggle into the bay just forward of the pegboard bay. Overhead clearances are the question mark at this point. We do have the slide outs in our bays.

I’ll post as soon as I’ve had time to try fitting the RT-340 in.

,

I have a 2017 Ventana LE 4037 and on the passengers side it will fit into the 1st, 2nd and 4th bay sitting cross ways. It also fits on my side tray in the 4th bay but won't fit in the 3rd bay.

That’s the Davy Crockett, right? The Reqtec RT-340 is a bit larger.
