Post 1 of 2 - Roof
OK, I finally got a break in the weather and was able to clean the roof. I started out with 409 and a brush but wasn't thrilled with the job so I switched to Murphy's Oil Soap and that left a little to be desired as well, so, I switched again and this time used Simple Green....again, not quite what I was expecting for the amount of work on such a small area that I tried. Finally, I reverted to a mix of bleach and water in a bug sprayer (the owner's manual does mention bleach can be used) as I've done with may other surfaces. I wasn't holding out too much hope, but to my surprise it did an extremely effective job. You can see the 'after' picture below. I did not get a 'before' picture, but trust me, it looks 100% better now. In fact, after rinsing and letting it sit a bit longer, it looks even better now than when I finished. Anyway, I worried about the 'chalkiness' being eliminated with only using bleach, but after it dried, I got up there and wiped with my hand and a dark towel and had no residue. So, in the future, this will be my method of cleaning...very easy and extremely effective. Now, tomorrow I will seal the seams and then treat the roof with Protect-All...I assume that is the order I should perform those activities.
Now, a question. After the cleaning, I noticed a lot more of the 'bubbles' on the roof then when it was dirty (picture below). I've been told that is normal for these 'rubber' roofs and not to worry unless they tear or are cracked. Just looking for some validation from the group.
Thanks for reading!
